Canada has become my official second team. They are just one step away from being contenders in WCQ Final group and would make great competition for the US and Mex.

They have great talent playing accross MLS and Europe. So why the hell can you guys not get out of the group. I cheer you on but come on, if you don't win against Hond at home, your qualification is completely over before it started and that is heartbreak

You're probably right Morado, but your Ticos would have just as hard a time in this group as Canada.

I like Canada. I was hoping it would be Canada and Mexico coming out of this group, but it's looking real tough now. Hope they can bounce back.

we currently sit second. no reason to believe we can't get another result in jamaica? wcq history tells us we'll have a very difficult time against honduras. But why do you not believe we can't get at least 3 points off them, and 1 off mexico? the second place team in this group will likely advance with less than 10 points.

Winning in Jamaica is much more difficult than it sounds. The US has never won a WCQ in Jamaica, for example. At the "Office" Jamaica does very well.

July 24, 1988 Jamaica T, 0-0 - Kingston, Jamaica
March 2, 1997 Jamaica T, 0-0 - Kingston, Jamaica
June 16, 2001 Jamaica T, 0-0 - Kingston, Jamaica
Aug 18, 2004 Jamaica T, 1-1 - Kingston, Jamaica

I actually think Jamaica goes into this qualifying a little underestimated. Sure, Mexico and Honduras are the favorites to qualify from that group. Everybody is assuming, though, that Canada is the team that will challenge them. I don't. Jamaica is off of people's radar because they didn't make the Gold Cup. Why didn't they make the Gold Cup? Because in the 2007 Caribbean Nations Cup they went out on goal difference in the group because they didn't beat St. Lucia by as many goals as Haiti (7-1) or St. Vincent & the Grenadines (8-0) did. They only beat them 4-0.

This team has a lot of offensive firepower coming over from England. For instance they didn't even use premiership player Marlon King against Canada. Of course, their goalkeeping and defense is a little suspect (as always). But Jamaica is no pushover whatsoever. Underestimate them at your own risk.

They didn't use this "offensive firepower" and won't be. The players apparently will not be recalled. What they used is what they have. All the "experts" say Jamaica's strength is purely defensively and you saw that against Canada. Canada completely dominated possession and scoring - to call the Jamaica goal anything different than an own-goal is naive in my opinion.

A tie for Canada in Jamaica does me just fine so long as Honduras do not defeat Jamaica and Canada can get points against the Hondurans.

I have to ask - how can you say Jamaica has lots of offensive firepower when they failed to defeat SV&G by equal to or great than Haiti? Further, scoring the vast amount you scored in the preliminary round of WCQ means little to nothing - ie, Canada completely took the foot off the pedal against StV&G once up by 2 goals in the first leg.

ps-the US have just won their first in Guatemala despite the ref's best efforts not to let that happen....so whose to say Jamaica won't lose at the office or draw????

Sure, but you didn't get full points at home against the weakest side in the group. That's not a good thing if you're counting points up...

I've all but given up on the canucks, they just blow when it comes to WCQ matches. I mean we outplayed Brazil (even though they are poor lately) just months ago, now we can't beat Jamaica at home. THe tie has to be faulted to Onstat though, that was terrible goal keeping, you can't make those kind of mistakes at this level, no two ways about it.

Let me clarify for you Morado.
Any other team from the other two groups besides Canada's group would have just as hard a time qualifying from this group.
This includes the U.S. and your beloved Costa Rica.
And who is to blame for this group of death?
Warner and his cronies.Just so that T& T has the best chance of qualifying.

Correction you guys are currently sitting in thrid place. Jamaica scored an away goal.

The Jamaica team that played stV&G in 2006 was a local team that is totally different from the world cup team. The world cup defeated stV&G
5-1 with offensive firepower!;)

That doesn't matter.

Tiebreakers for league formats:

League Format Tiebreakers

For FIFA World Cup qualifying stages the method used for separating teams level on points is the same for all Confederations, as decided by FIFA themselves.[3] If teams are even on points at the end of group play, the tied teams will be ranked by:

1. goal difference in all group matches
2. greater number of goals scored in all group matches
3. greater number of points obtained in matches between the tied teams
4. goal difference in matches between the tied teams
5. greater number of goals scored in matches between the tied teams
6. drawing of lots, or a play-off (if approved by FIFA)

Let's work with this analysis and put numbers to it. You have Canada with 2 vs. Jam, 3 vs. Hon and 1 vs. Mex for a total of 6 points. You also have Jam with 2 points and Hon with 3 and the two of them have to play each other twice. Unless both these games are ties, Canada is in trouble.

For Canada to advance, other than getting a tie in Jamaica, they will need at least 4 points vs. Honduras or a win vs. Hon and a win over Mexico and hope that this is Mexico's only loss. Even if Canada wins in Jamaica, they are likely to need better than break even vs. Honduras.

Canada might be in second place now, but they are also the only team in the group to lose home points. If Canada is to advance, they will need to make up for these lost points somewhere, just getting results (as described in the original post) is unlikely to do the job.

My money is still with the canucks, Honduras is in dire need of points after their "aztecazo" and should play wide open against Canada, DeRosario and Co. will run circles around a very uneven H backline.

if you can not get full points at HOME against the weakest team in the group. Then you will not win AT Hond or MEX. And you can say that your best bet is 1 point at home to MEX. You must win this next HOME game against HON and take full points. If you don't then your WCQ is over. You will not just wake up and play when you need to away from home. Win to Hond in two weeks or it is over.

PLEASE WIN, I want Canada in there....

The real table

1 Mexico
0 Jamaica
-1 Honduras
-1 Canada

That is adjusted for home and away and shows where the teams are relative to each other.
