yeah we all should pay more attention and praise more to this lad.
this player is arguably one of the best midfielders in concecaf and canada!

with his dribbling skill and accurate long pass..his skill is bringing canadian soccer to a stronger dimension.

Easily the best player on the field last night...very special to watch and he had the Jamaicans in front of us in awe as well.
Well done Julian...you made us very proud last night and are excited for what happens in the future as you lead us to the World Cup!!:D

he did what he had to do. but the defending was absolutely horrible, i can't believe how badly the two defenders played Julian. nice goal still.

This dude is a great player. Lets try to calm down a bit through about the best in CONCACAF thing please, there's a couple guys named Ochoa, Guardado, Marquez, Suazo, who are on another level. But I'd have no problem comparing him to Altidore, Edu, Bravo, Bradley etc...

by the way, how does he compare to his brother?

jonathan de guzman have been training in netherlands since very young.
i can't really get a hold of his video..

but according to wikipedia..he scored two goals in his debut for netherland u-21.

well since this is u-21..there is still a slight chance for jonathan to join canada team.

but after reading the euro 2008 magazine..the pundit actually recommends netherlands to choose jonathan de guzman for the future..

Julian is much more of a field general then Jonathan. He will control the game if allowed to do so. He typically plays a more defensive role when he plays with Deportivo, but he has shown with his play with Canada that he can also be quite an offensive threat.

Jonathan is more of an attacking midfielder, he can be quite the scoring threat or can set up the play that will lead to a goal. Again, he is better on the offensive side, while Julian is better on the defensive and ball control side of things.

He has been over there since he was 12.

Yeah, I seen the highlights of the game, at least one of them was off a free-kick, it might have been both.

He will have until September 12th (his 21st birthday) to make up his decision or he will be cap tied to the Netherlands. He was recently over in Bejing for the Olympics where the Netherlands performed very poorly for their standards. They only beat Japan by 1 goal (a penalty at that) and had draws in the other 2. While a loss to Argentina knocked them out. If you ask me, there is no glory in playing for the most under-achieving country in the history of the sport. A team that has been picked to be a favorite to win many tournaments but has only ever won the '88 EUROs. Absolutely horrible if you ask me.

The Netherlands has a few other players that deserve to start in front of De Guzman right now. The only reason that magazine stated this is because of how Netherlands was the favourite coming out of the group stage and then blew it. As I have said, their players always choke, putting Jonathan in there won't change that.

Provided he hasn't played for the national team, he has a deadline of Sept 21? I thought you won't be captied unless you play for the actual senior team.

Oh well, its only a dream. I highly doubt the kid's coming back either way. But these brothers playing for Canada... would be wondrous.

interestingly enough
i realize the players that can truly dribble and cause problem for opponent are only de rosario and de guzman.

i havn't really see how ali gerba play too..
but i think dribbling technique should also be included in improving the canadian play

It’s a shame. Because if Jonathon had joined his brother -- along with Owen Hargreaves, another Canadian born player, who opted to play for England -- Canada might have the most dangerous midfield in CONCACAF.

I think we have the most dangerous midfield in CONCACAF with the boys who wear red now:

de Guzman
Hutchinson
De Rosario

are the core, throw in Radzinski, Bernier or Imhof and who has a better top 5?

Me personally I think Hume should start instead of radz, but that because I was always taught the youth are the future.

Great game played by De Guzman, he is slowly getting the recognition he deserves and I would not be surprised if he gets transferred to a bigger club. Him along with Guardado really ate up Real Madrid. What is interesting though is he plays a pure defensive midfield role for Deportivo and is really quite good at it. For Canada he is essentially our number 10 and Hutchinson plays the defensive role. Playing in La Liga has done wonders for his game.

Kinda annoyed me when De Guzman miskicked a shot and the moron that is Ray Hudson said that is not his game, maybe that idiot should watch some of the goals he has scored for Canada..

De Guzman was named by many as the best player on the park against the Galacticos this weekend.
