Next match against Schalke, a team, that showed a convincing
performance against Hannover 96 on matchday 1.

In comparison to the Bielefeld match we need to improve
our tactical behaviour in defense and the midfield must
be more creative. Furthermore we have to take care of
Schalkes standard situations, that are very dangerous.

Interesting will be, if Schaaf lets Pizzaro start.

Let's hope for another 5-1 drubbing!

Can´t wait until tommorow.
Pizarro will definitely play, alongside Rosenberg.
Özil will show his class against his old club...hopefully. He didn´t play well in the U21 match against Moldawia. But Eilts didn´t play him in his best position.
Hope Pasanen will play as a left back instead of Boenisch, he was awful last week.

2-0 or 3-1 Bremen

Can't share your optimism, since Schalke are in good form, while we are not (especially defensively), but I hope you are right.

I'm really looking forward to see Pizarro in a Werder shirt again. Like I wrote earlier, if he can reach the level of his early Bremen years again, he could make all the difference for us this season.

The lineup I want to see:

------------Wiese----------------
------Naldo--------Prodl----------
Fritz------------------------Pasanen
-------------Baumann----------------
------Frings--------Jansen--------
--------------Ozil------------------
--------Rose----Hugo---------

I highly doubt Pizarro starting tomorrow..It's too risky for Schaaf to start a new player who isn't match fit in such a big match.

They did look pretty good. That game was better than no game.

But good old Goltv is giving me my Werder fix tomorrow right after Bayern plays to another draw, (wishful thinking). Should be a really good match.

Rust, your line up looks pretty good to me. I don't suppose Diego is going to fly all night and show up just in case????

Way to passive start by us, Schalke actually looking better in the first half so far.

Damn Pizarro should have scored!

Argh......what a run by Özil, definitely deserved a goal. He really needs to become more clinical.

But absolutely class dribbling. We finally start to play some good footy.

This Schober guy who replaced Manuel Neuer with a world class performance today. How many quality keepers does Schalke produce? If he can keep that level, Schalke won't miss Neuer against Atletico.

0-0 HT

Schalke with the better start, but we came back and had quite a few good chances, should have scored if it wasn't for Schober's class saves. Interesting match, hopefully we'll be more clinical in the second half, since our defence looks shaky as always...

YESSSSS! Frings scores! 1:0!

But we'll need more goals to win the game I'm afraid, since our defence has not exactly improved...

Özil has so much potential it's crazy. An amazing assist after some great dribblings and passes in the first half. And now another almost-assist, Rosenberg should have scored.

Özil is running rings around the Schalke defence! This is Schalke, not some pub team!

Wiese with a rather weak match today, some unnecessary dangerous situations due to his lack of concentration.

We are still wasting way too many excellent chances. Almeida should have scored right now.

I seriously hope that Pizarro gels with the team soon, and that we become more clinical, otherwise it will cost us once again, just like our still shaky defence will cost us. Hopefully, Mertesacker is fit soon.

As expected, Schalke score after a mistake by our defence. Typical.

It's such a typical Werder performance. Should have easily been leading 2:0 or 3:0, but we simply waste too many chances, while making school boy mistakes at the back. The same old crap as always, no improvement whatsoever, and now we'll have to be glad to get a point out of this match even.

Werder Bremen - Schalke 04 1-1 FT

Very typical Werder performance, no improvement whatsoever. We will never learn from our mistakes it seems, extremely annoying.

I hope Schaaf and co realize that we need to strengthen our defense!!!!

I disagree. This was a big improvement to the Bielefeld match. Not the scoreline of course but the team created lots of chances. It was a very fluid play overall. Between the 15th and the 30th minute Schalke was better but other than that we were the dominant team. The Schalke goal could have happened to any team. Goals like that happen.

Kicker writes that Schalke was lucky to get away with a draw.
I do agree that we wasted too many chances. Especially the one by Almeida should have been a goal.

I didn't imply to say that this match was no improvement over the Bielefeld match (it definitely was), but with "improvement" I actually meant improvement in cleverness, improvement in defending a lead and winning match we should have won. And sorry, there is no improvement in this area whatsoever.

We could and should have won today, we had the chances, we didn't use them, and typically, we conceded an avoidable goal. Same old Werder Bremen, and honestly, it's not just me who is annoyed about us still not being able to avoid the most simple mistakes, and even worse, learn from them.
