I thought this merited its own thread.

I spoke at some length with the trainer after the game. Ben Olsen has a third degree strain of the medial collateral ligament. Although he awaits an MRI to verify the situation, the trainer says that the knee moves readily under examination.
Third degree means near total separation and points to 6 to 8 weeks out. Healing should occur naturally.
This is a significant loss for us. We don't have anyone that can provide quite the same kind of spark or play as Olsen has lately.

This means we've seen the last of Ben this year, no matter how deep we go into the playoffs.

well... we now know whose going to start on the wings
this team just can't catch a break... Nick and Olsen, they two guys that have played in every game this season are now no longer in the lineup :(

this SUCKS!!!! there go any chance of going deep into the playoffs ......... straight down the drain. we have to move Thiago in as a starter up front and drop Stewart into midfield. that's our only chance to salvage the season. OUr USOC chances are finished.

Ben Olsen injury is going to hurt DC United.
I hope he gets better.

do not lose hope
olsen is good, but he's not greater than the team. players will step up, we will go on.

i understand what you are saying, but Olsen was ON FIRE!!!! as i said, our only hope is to drop Stewart to mid and play Thiago up front. we can't continue to have Etch and Quintanilla BOTH in midfield because they get beat defensively ad nauseum!! watching them play defense at RFK today was painful. we win 3-0 today if Olsen didn't get hurt.

Actually, I disagree with that--the Mutts really couldn't come up with a whole lot that was dangerous. And I don't see how having Ben Olsen in the match improves our strikers' accuracy from six yards out.
We just flat didn't play as well as we did Thursday, and the Mutts played better than they did on Thursday.
That said, there's no way they deserved a point out of this game.

The only good thing is that is wasn't one of his ankles again.

Very early in the game, there was a loose ball in our box. Wolyniec and Olsen both went to kick it and Olsen got the worst of the play. No foul was called and in no way was Woly doing anything but going for the ball. Just one of those things.

Poor Ben! He's my favorite United player to watch, and he just can't seem to stay well. I wonder what he did in a past life to deserve all this torment. Here's hoping he mends quickly and thoroughly!

Was at Thursday's game at Giants. Don't especially like to say it, but Olsen was clearly MOTM. Just electrifying.
Your roster is stacked with guys waiting to step up, (the only surprise about these recent results is that they've come so late in the season.) But Olsen deserves a better break. Hope he gets well soon.

He's just the latest injury on an ever increasing list. To date here's our list:
Nick Rimando
Ben Olsen
Milton Reyes
Santino Quaranta
Hristo Stoichkov
Devin Barclay
That's 1/4 of our team who are out for the year (assuming Hristo doesn't come back).

Hristo was warming up today at halftime . . . he didn't come in, but he warmed up . . . i don't think he touched a ball though.

I confirm, and unless we've all been misled about his recovery and soon return, I'm mystified why our arguably burliest Bulgarian wasn't subbed in to help as an enforcing type presence in light of all the physical play, though it just as easily could have turned out that we'd be the ones down a man in the waning minutes.

I'm well aware of that, but he is still recovering from injury and has to play in a game since coming off the list. Warming up does not mean that he is completely healed. The only way to know for sure is for him to play in a game.

True. And that was quite a display of stretching he was putting on! :)
I really thought he was planning to start the second half or something.

Tooo bad he didn't come in. Nobody can kill a game like Hristo. He is great at holding the ball and taking a foul for the team. Plus as an added bonus he can kill you on the free kick.
I guess he didn't come in at the very end because we had used all of our subs.
