Quem não tem cão, caça com gato.

The old Brz proverb fits as a glove.

(In English, it means: 'if you don't have a dog, chase with your cat').

Argentina 3 x 0 Brazil might have given the false impression to the world that the glorious 5-time World Champion canarinhos' Olympic hopes in China were footballistically shattered.

WHAT A TERRIBLE MISTAKE.

Everybody knows that specially in the Olympic Games no country can consider itself complete in ANY modality if it doesn't consider the other half of the world, precisely the one that produced the Messi's, the Ronaldos, the Pibes and the ‘Blond Arrows’, the Cruyjffs and Platinis, the Pelés and Garrinchas - the extraordinary feminine world.

In a competition of such high level they divide the glories with their less populous counterpart: Isinbayeva and Asafa Powell, Shawn Johnson and Kobe Bryant, Kournikova and Rafael Nadal, etc etc.

And, in 2008, to Brazil luck, if our men happened to fail, we were the only ones among the world football powerhouses that could count on our women to save our reputation (with the exception of Germany – but those, poor, after their last game are until now looking for Marta & Co and asking each other what was really the colour of the ball).

A superpower in a sport is a nation that historically dominates both men’s and women’s sides: like U.S. in basketball.

Something that just in the last years Brazil really became – and, what a happy coincidence – right when we commemorate 50 years of world dominance.

Probably the only real world football superpower ever.

Not because of the men: because of the…girls.

Nothing more important than to be able to say: hey, our guys were (or have been) historically good in the sport - but ALSO our WOMEN.

If Argentina wins the gold in the man’s football tournament and Brazil does the same in the feminine – sorry Argies – you can be sure we’ll be rigorously tied at the end of the Beijing Games.

Who doesn’t have ‘he-dogs', also chases with ‘she-cats’! :p …

Well, the man has a good point. It is obvious that right now Argentina is better in men's futbol, and Brazil is better in women's futbol. If in his view that makes us even, then so be it.

No offence but I really can't see women's futbol as anything but a side dish at best, the real meal is in men's futbol. This is not meant as a sexist remark it is just obviously where the quality play is, period. 3-0 is all that I have to say:D.

Let's be logical - and put passions a bit aside.

What’s being in dispute is not a Man’s World Cup.

But the…2008 Beijing Olympics.

And the only thing that really counts in any Olympics is the medal's table.

Regardless the sex of their athletes.

Period.

Men's football is entitled to 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze.

The same with women's football.

It doesn’t matter AT ALL for the Games if you consider men's football more important than women's.

For the organization of the tournament both are EQUALLY important.

At the end what decides is the colour of the medal in that determinate sport.

If we were to be subjective, as El Viejo Mathias wants (oh my, without at least explaining his reasons)…:I really can't see women's futbol as anything but a side dish at best, the real meal is in men's futbol. (...) This is not meant as a sexist remark it is just obviously where the quality play is, period.…we could also bring into discussion as a valid ‘sujective’ consideration the fact that Brazilian women lost the gold medal to defending Olympic Champion USA 1 x 0, after beating defending World Champion Germany 4 x 1.

And that it dominated both games, being only frustrated in the final by a muddy field (which always favours less technical teams) and a miraculous goalie.

And you?...

All you faced in the last 2 games (the most important) were a toothless Brazil whose players met in the airport 15 days ago, and an unranked Nigeria.

Ok, you beat us: but that earned you NOTHING - besides what we already got.

In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, in order for us to feel beaten by you, you'll first have to beat Nigeria (which by the way is nothing in the world scénarium) by at least a PKs decision.

And get the gold.

Then – and only then – you can commemorate.

But, if you lose to them – we’ll be at least tying with you :p ...

With salomonic justice: one silver each ;) ...

__________________________________________________________

PS: That, of course, if we don’t beat Belgium and grab that bronze medal you guys despise so much…

Then it’ll be Brazil first (1 silver, 1 bronze), Argentina second (1 silver), and, at least as South American football is concerned, it’ll be us who will go back home commemorating…

What - independently of being side dish or real meal - will for sure be a quite enticing…DESSERT! :D

Blah, blah, blah pure hot air you are blowing my freind. Let's remember we are at BIGSOCCER.COM hence who cares about the rest of the Olympic events for that we can post in another thread, secondly I have nothing to defend myself for, my opinion of womens soccer stands. Thirdly, what a lame excuse to use that brazil did not care or that they sent a squad that was not ready, etc, etc, NEWS FLASH these are the olympics and even Argentina had team-mates whom never played together:rolleyes:. It is not our fault that we have more talent hat has expereince in the Under 23 category. Fourthly Brazil wanted a gold bad, it was in the media, it was in Ronnies face after the match and Messi was nice enough to give him a hug.:p

Now you can come on here and try to be all smug with your little snide remarks and insult all you may it does not change the fact that the world just watched Argentina thouroughly beat Brazil at the worlds most popular and loved sport.

Now it's explained.

You're German! :p ...Let's remember we are at BIGSOCCER.COM hence who cares about the rest of the Olympic events for that we can post in another thread‘Rest’? ‘Another thread’?

Well,

Had a faint impression women's soccer was still soccer...

Besides I always thought the title of this section was '2008 Olympics'...

Isn't it?...secondly I have nothing to defend myself forOk,

But be careful with Nigeria, unless you still want to be ‘firstly’…

my opinion of womens soccer standsGreat.

Democracy in spite of idiocracy* ...

*Idiocracy. A society in which intelligence is systematically debased, stupid people easily out-breed the intelligent, creating, over the course of five centuries, an irremediably dysfunctional society – Wikipedia.Thirdly, what a lame excuse to use that brazil did not care or that they sent a squad that was not ready, etc, etcI cared.

Don’t like to lose to Argentinians not even in pinball machines.

Anyway tell me where did I ‘use that excuse’ (BTW, congrats for the beautiful alliteration!...)

Just humbly said we were ‘toothless’ (inspite of Dinho, lol) and that ‘they met for the 1st time 15 days ago’, which was true.

Well, maybe 25.NEWS FLASH these are the Olympics???even Argentina had team-mates whom never played together’Whom’?...

Err-rr…

Well, I can go along with that!...

Everybody could notice it: the game as a whole - lets concede - was technically poor.

Yep, and we 'beat' - but you beat too.

Serious now - both sides played ugly football.

And goals were result of blunders, therefore easy to score. It is not our fault that we have more talentThis time I’ll go along with you too – feels better now?...

hat has expereince in the Under ‘Expereince in the Under’???

Mein?...Nahh!!!...

Häu dare?...

Achtung!...

Ya don’t haf ANY experreince off mein ‘Under’!

Att awll!...

Fokkkher!...Fourthly Brazil wanted a gold bad, it was in the mediaYou’re right.

No need of the media to know that.it was in Ronnies face after the match and Messi was nice enough to give him a hugWhat a bad taste.

Diego’s cuter.

Besides, Ronnie’s ’under’ is too bony. Now you can come on here and try to be all smugWell, I didn’t know the term ‘smug’, so I consulted the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary:Main Entry:
smug
Pronunciation:
\ˈsməg\
Function:
adjective
Inflected Form(s):
smug·ger; smug·gest
Etymology:
probably modification of Low German smuck neat, from Middle Low German, from smucken to dress; akin to Old English smoc smock
Date:
1551
1 : trim or smart in dress : spruce (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/spruce) 2 : scrupulously clean, neat, or correct : tidy (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tidy) 3 : highly self-satisfied
— smug·ly adverb
— smug·ness nounBingo!...

Knew there was something German in all that!...

Besides, thanks for calling me‘scrupulously clean, neat, or correct’: something you're not showing to be.

That makes me ‘highly self-satisfied’…

Do you feel 'smug' too? Nah!...So ill-humoured!...with your little snide remarksI can go along with that too…and insultInsult?…

Isn’it the other way around?...

First you questioned my masculinity:eat your humble pie like a manThen you used a heavy word to disqualify my innocent and playful post:Was he being serious with that silly post??On my part when did I ever do anything like that here???...it does not change the fact that the world just watched Argentina thouroughly beat Brazil at the worlds most popular and loved sport.I’m thouroughly convinced of the same myself.

But – do beat Nigeria.

And then we’ll talk.By the way KingKong your translation of the "proverb" in English leaves a lot to be desired (lol)How would you translate it yourself?...

Anyway, I’ll humbly try again:

“Don’t put in my ‘under’ that I’ll put in yours”

How about that as a tribute to the millenary culture of China? :D ...

One would think with all the education you profess to have and the wisdom you think you posses , you would not need to argue with the likes of me and in fact practice discretion and better judgement and actually not waste your time here posting what is arguably a huge rant and really in truth pointless.
So you have something against the term freind, fine no worries I shall not make that mistake again.;)
Once again chamigo, a lame post hiding your frustrations by sneaking in " but "do" beat Nigeria , and then we'll talk.
Last I saw this threads title was about the 3-0 drubbing of Brazil, a result that has upset your president so much he is calling for Dunga's head. What happens with Nigeria then is mute.
Calling me a German is supposed to be an insult?? Fact is if it was not for many German, Prussian, Ukranian, Polish settlers in Brazil and Argentina I shudder to think what those countries would have missed out on.:p

Also just a little clarification, no this is not officialy a Olympics thread but a thread about FIFA and its tourneys, false yes, soccer related for sure.
Also , no I never questioned your manhood, just your lack of spotsmanship.
Does it not beg the question then if your original post was playfull, then my calling it silly should not have offended, correct?? You are the linguist so you should know.
Very weak for pointing out spelling mistakes, since i could give a rats arse posting in a forum wich often i do quickly at work or at home with at least one child tugging at me:rolleyes:. I would say this is hardly the place to try to discuss, Kant, Camus, Dostoyevsky or the like and be so full of onself to take as much time as you must to respond with "crafted" retorts loaded with nothing but self glorifying snippets.
So you have a command of the english language, congratulations, do you want a cookie??
I do not want to compare penis size thanks , just stick to the title of this thread and say Argentina 3 Brasil 0. Make all the excuses, retorts, snide remarks you want.

smug

1551, "trim, neat, spruce, smart," possibly an alteration of Low Ger. smuk "trim, neat," from M.L.G. smücken "to adorn," and smiegen "to press close" (see smock). The meaning "having a self-satisfied air" is from 1701, an extension of the sense of "smooth, sleek" (1582), which was commonly used of attractive women and girls.

You...running?

Thanx for the useful information, Viejo.

Now I know that, if you call me:

مَزهُوٌّبِنَفْسِه

I can call you:

sjálfumglaður

And - in these OGs - that makes us even more…even.

And självbelåten.

Down there, in the fields of Beijing, it's still 1 silver to you, 1 silver to us.

Do your part, beat Nigeria, and, then (only then) you'll be able to be:

samolibý
selvtilfreds
zelfvoldaan
endaga rahulolev
ennastimetlev
omahyväinen

...as much as you wish.

And, DO IT, because (fresh news!):

This morning Brazil beat Belgium and got the bronze.

Now, the advantadge is ours: Brazil, 1 silver, 1 bronze, Argentina, 1 silver.

In terms of Olympic Games footie, as of now, I see nobody ahead of us.

Nor on our side.
