Why wasn't Cudicini on the bench in the first game of the season? Why was Hilario instead?
Is Cudicini injured? Is Scolari unhappy with him? Is Cudicini going to be traded?
Any info is appreciated.

It really doesn't matter at all.
But it's more than likely that Hilario simply did better in training and was simply picked ahead of Cudicini.

??????????????
:rolleyes
Of course it matters, Cudicini is a far superior goal keeper. With the number of games that Chec has missed over that last 2 seasons the 2nd choice of keeper is not insignificant.

Cudicini *was* a far superior goalkeeper. We've seen so little of him for 3 or 4 years... who knows?

Well, it does matter to me. I have both Cech and Cudicini on my fantasy team. Now I'm wondering whether I should drop Cech and pick up Hilario.

So you think Hilario and Cudicini are essentially at the same level? I highly disagree. Even with Cudicini's occasional brain lapses, I'd still take him.
Though Marco Ambrosio is still preferable to both!

I thought Ambrosio did OK, but not better than Carlo.

I should have written that like this:
Though Marco Ambrosio is still preferable to both!
Though Ambrosio did start in goal for the game in my avatar.

Carlo could be reunited with Ranieri after an approach by Juventus to sign him. He was one of the great bargain buys and a loyal servant to the club. If he leaves for his home country and Juventus I would respect his decision and wish him well!
A true Chelsea legend!

Mshank, remember those saves against Olympiakos? Plus, Cudicini was the reason I became a keeper!

I like Cudicini, but:
Cudicini was the reason I became a keeper!
That doesn't mean anything.

Luca, I was 14 when I started following Chelsea, I admired Carlo.

Not the fact that you were too terrible to play anywhere else on the field?

he has been a great professional and was very good keeper
I understand that he was injured for the first game as well.

Cheeky bastard :p. If I don't play as a keeper I'll usually play as a left/right back or a winger. But I prefer keeper out of all those to be honest.

Never trust an Englishman to do a keeper's job. They all turn out like Paul Robinson.
