Colombia was pushed by three major tournaments between 1998 and 2002 - Copa AMerica 1999, CONCACAF Gold Cup 2000, and Copa America 2001. Not to mention WCQ and countless friendlies. A lot of action pushed them up in the world rankings and may have inflated them - the Copa America 2001 was the cherry on top.
