MetroStars coach Bob Bradley wanted his team to treat last night's game at the Meadowlands
against D.C. United like a playoff game. He must have forgotten to tell them.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, the MetroStars it seemed were on the verge of gaining some momentum. But Joe Addo shot his team in the foot, check that, in the head. The defenseman completely misplayed a ball at midfield, springing D.C. strikers Earnie Stewart and Ronald Cerritos toward a defenseless Jonny Walker. After drawing Walker out of the net, Stewart slid the ball over to Cerritos, who tapped in the open netter for his fourth goal of the season in the 66th minute.
"Joe Addo stood up and claimed full responsibility for the loss afterwards, that's just the kind of player he is," Bradley said. "But the players consoled him and shared the blame for the loss."
Joe Addo didn't lose the game for them. He's just a scapegoat. It was a team effort from Bradley on down. Hopefully though, that team keeps thinking they almost got in the game.. Let them have their illusion as it reminds me of what the Crew would always say about DCU after they lost yet another playoff game.

i thought that stewart deliverd a ball to petke's head and then ben scored on the rebound off the crossbar. the new york post made it sound like cerritos delivered the ball. i was there but may be mistaken.

not to further nitpick, but goff also says it was 'cerritos first goal in a united shirt' or something close to that. actually he scored in wilmington.

Ursula you are absolutely right. Not one player on the Metros, with the exception of maybe Pope, showed up to play last night. They just went through the motions. However, I still believe that sliding a younger Forchetti into the lineup for the Metros would be better, because Addo can't go a full 90.

It was Stewart who started the sequence with the free kick, not Cerritos.
