In all honesty the boot does sort of deserve an explanation thread on why everyone would make love to the boot if it were a woman (or a man for our few female posters and mod).
Pretty much it was the best Predator made for various reason. Adidas still gave a $hit about the quality of the boots they made then so it was just built better. For example the heel counter was rock hard and supportive, plus it was stitched to the upper so it would never peel off. The outsole was direct injected like the Copas but with blades. The synthetic on the boot was this textured material that was thick and tough, no burns from turf or hard fields on that stuff. The leather was great, just thin enough for touch but thick enough to ot over expand or loose shape.
On the flip side people love it because given the age of a lot of our posters that was their first "awesome" boot. It was the only the second pred that wasn't bulky and clunky (Acclerators were the other. It got a lot of hype because Zidane's CL goal as well and Becks broken foot. They were a favorite of the pro's to such a degree Del Piero had the outsole put onto his F-50's until he went to Tunits, and he still sports the Mania on the rare day.
That being said, the boot and I had sizing issues and I never really took to it like everyone else. I can be objective and say it was my foot not the quality of shoe though. The SuperNova which was the same shoe without the Pred rubber served me well though.

Ah ok thanks. I Was really gonna get the nike mercurial vapor iv or ii, but then i thought, the iv is just like the iii;s with that litttle strap over the laces tbh, and its to freaking synthentic. I was gonna get the v1.06 kleather cause there light but my feet wont fit into them. So i guess ill go with the manias.

Yes by all means, they are the exact same thing as the Maina barring the Pred rubber. If you don't like the rubber or you don't feel the need for it the Supernova is perfect. Plus it wasn't as popular as the Mania so you might get it dirt cheap.
I only chose that over the Maina because the rubber was still stiffer then on the Preds and it didn't allow for the boot to stretch in the size I like to wear on the inside. I have wider feet and wear my boots so small it makes my Dr. cringe so the lack of stretching is the reason I wore Novas
Most people will say the Mania is the best boot they wore, I have heard more people say that in reference to the Mania than actually than any other boot I know of.

it sounds to me like you just don't like synthetics. a couple posts back you said u were going to get vapors but you went for LEATHER 1.06 and then LEATHER manias. so it sounds like ur a leather person to me

Lets not forget the aesthetic- and the fact that preds since have been woeful in performance and to an extent looks. I famously never owned mania's so can't comment sooo much, but what I can say is that in the Pulse-hating nostalgia I looked at dudes champagne (my most hated colorway EVER) manias in the "your boots thread" and thought "man those look quite good".
Also they hark back to a simpler time, back when there was enough choice in shoes and colors so as not to be dull, but the world didn't make you feel like the feet of the top players were like the conveyor belt in Brucie's "Generation Game"! Oh and if u were good and had cheques signed by Mr Dassler, u wore Manias, none of this adipure/f50/30/.6.7.8 BS, so if u were influenced by such things (which by virtue of reading this thread Im guessing u were/are) they were ur fave players fave cleats.

What do you think Appeal means?
"Appeal of manias" translates to "Why do you like them?"

I'll tell you why I bloody loved Mania's.
Mania's were my first expensive pair of football boots. I had been playing in cheap plastic Nikes, and then one day I saw them on the shelf at an Adidas factory store! They were quality kangaroo leather, not too soft, not too thick. The heel counter was even an awesome shape - great angles. The little synthetic at the bottom of the boot just looked cool, and the way the stripes appeared to wrap from the tongue, through the elements, down to the bottom looked even cooler. Also, the colourways had 2 to 3 distinctly different colours - not multiple shapes of blues and funny clear predator islands like there are today.
Beckham had worn them at the WC02, along with a host of other players, and they really stood out. I wanted them! They looked awesome on the players' feet. I didn't even know all that much about boots back then, but I could always easlily see if a player was wearing them on TV.
Also, there weren't near 10 different colourways of the model. There were only really 3 or 4 easily attainible colourways, so you could buy a colourway, and wear them for 2 seasons, and your favourite players on tv would also still be wearing them!
The boots came out at a great time - when boots were still classic, but also becoming modern, and these were a great fusion between the two.
The Manias were modern, but not tacky - they were stylish...
