Everyone's been getting all giddy about the loads of soccer opportunities, and there are a ton of them. But the one I'm looking forward to is World Cup Qualifying. I'm looking forward to getting the bad taste of the Olympics out of my mouth.

By going down to Mother Egan's and having a half (yes, I said HALF) pint of Smithwick's and watching our boys get another tie in Guatemala (check the history, we've done it four times now). Or, even cooler, a win.

The game is Wednesday, 9pm. See y'all there!

I'll be there in spirit. (Actually I'll be home nursing my wounds from a "friendly" game with co-workers.) I wish I could hoist even a half a pint with you, but them are the breaks. I may be able to come out for the match against Cuba, though.

See you there.
Just one question:
What's a half pint?

Something that I get mightily abused by Johnny for ordering.

Well from what I have heard, and read in the main article here on big soccer, the USANT won for the first time in guatamala but that every man on the field had his knives and forks up, kleets, and was going for some other mans legs and trying ta make a meal of it.

In other words, it was a grusome affair with lots of injuries and rough play.

Can anybody here give me any details and how many of the Army were pressent at the match cast?

We had about 8 or 9 Chantico's Army members that I recognized (including a cleanly shorn Barbaro who I almost didn't recognize) as well as about 20 other folks who were brought in as well. I'll put up my thoughts on the match later tonight, but you're right, it was brutal. Eddie Lewis went out in the second with a massive gash caused by a Guatemalan player running head on (literally) to him at full speed. One of the nastiest collisions I've seen in a long time.
