It is Bayer Leverkusen's fault that Landon Donovan did not become a start in Europe in 2005. Even though Landon did not want to goto Germany, they forced him to cross the pond against his will in the winter. Even though he was not ready, Landon did all that was asked of him by his club and manager, and when he had a poor match against the world's best club as defined by the Champion's League competition, the manager and media scapegoated him and torched him in the media, and then the coach refused to play him again. Feeling abandoned and confused, the man who never even wanted to go to Europe because he didn't think he was mentally prepared, took advantage of a contractual clause and went back to MLS, where he knew he would have the chance to grow as a player and mautre mentally until he was ready for a European challenge.
there, it is 100% Leverkusen's failure, and that theory is 100% as feasible as your own is.

I'd say its a little bit both. I would say that this is 20% Leverkusen's fault and 80% the fact that LD is a whiny punk ass bitch.
Plus he was never good enough for Bayer Leverkusen. That I guess could be attributed as partly Leverkusen's fault.
But once again Crismerz, you're making everyone in the German forum think that all Americans think like appoo. I'd say most soccer-informed people in America realize that Donovan is a great player in CONCACRAP, it doesn't mean ******** all in Europe

Woah...how do I make it seem like all Americans think like Apoo? Besides, we have so many Americans here on the German forum anyway!
Sorry OLH if you seem to think I might have an agenda, I don't. I just thought that was a very unfair statment from a poster and wondered what you all thought about it because I did not follow the situation all that well when this Donovan/Leverkusen saga happened, I could find out more by listening to the rebutals, like yours.

Leverkusen did everything they needed to do to try to get that punk bitch acclimated.
And TOLH, in my experiences "most" American football fans do think like that idiot.
I think Cris was dead on.

I'm not saying you are, but by posting posts like this, you will ;)
I know you don't have your agenda.
And footy, I said most INFORMED fans ;)

There don't seem to be too many of those.
Check that. There are, but they let their pride take precedence over reality.
Can we get back to Bayer here? They've got a huge match at home against Schalke on Saturday.
I expect it to be one of the top BL matches of the weekend along with Hoffenheim hosting Wolfsburg.
I'm anxious to see how the young Bayer team will react after seemingly forgetting everything Labbadia "teaches" them about defense (serious sarcasm) last weekend.
LOL!!!

How long has it been since the Donovan meltdown? At first I was very excited about the possibility of LD playing for the Aspirin club. I am an American and I am from L.A. so I have seen LD play in MLS and is quite talented when he applies himself.
That being said, when he first arrived, he thought he could walk right in and grab a starting spot but it just doesn't work that way in Europe, let alone Germany. He turned into a big cry baby about it. Had he been man enough to stick with it and learn about how real club football is played, he might have, in time, earned a starting role. I think it was the year that Berbs left that he decided it was too hard for him and he left.
Glad he left, until he is able to prove himself on the biggest stage in the world(Europe, UEFA CL, etc) then he is no world class player. All world class player hail their club football in Europe,

You may not have an agenda, but I do not understand why else you are selectively choosing the most extreme posts on the American forums and posting them out of context both on the World Rivalries and German forums.
This post in particular was taken very much out of context. You left out the three words directly preceding that paragraph in the original post - "just for fun." Appoo was "just for fun" posting an opinion that he thought was as extreme as the one he was responding to - one that blamed the Leverkusen situation entirely on Donovan.

and i am sure the leverkusen fans love hearing this in here...
It's not like Leverkusen will apart without him, he's not even one of their top players this season.

You're right, they won't fall apart but I think he is important to them. Leverkusen are a team unit that pretty much relies on all players to make things work.
If they continue like this I don't know how many of their young talents they'll be able to hold onto though.

If that is the case then I don't see how fans would consider this bad news
If a big team was interested in one of my average players, I would sell him, make good bucks and be jumping up and down. :D (although I don't consider youngster Vidal 'avarage' by any means).
That's what we did when we sold Morales to Dinamo Zagreb.

Let's see where you guys are after the next three weeks. If it is still first place, I'll be impressed then.
Forget that comment. I must have been feeling a bit bitter.

Michal Kadlec is absoultely immense. What a find. I honestly think he's the best player on that team.
As for Vidal, I think he's taken a bit of a back seat to Renato Augusto and Barnetta, but he's a very effective player.
One thing I can see that could be a potential problem is their lack of depth. The players that are playing so well right now are working well, but, especially in midfield and strikers, they are pretty short on numbers. Gekas is the only reserve forward that they have (unless you count Sakuta-Pasu, which I don't). In midfield, there's Schneider, who's done for all I know, Sarpei and Schwegler, whom I don't rate, and Castro, who can move from RB. However, with Castro moving to midfield, I don't see a natural RB replacing him.
