No "Leverkusen Fans" here have any comments about Bayer being knocked out of the German Cup by 2nd Bundesliga team Kaiserslautern??
Hell, are there any real "Leverkusen Fans" here?
Do any of you exist???
I'm starting to think "Leverkusen Fans" are like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster...... :D

Germany as a whole has super slow shipping to the US. I am waiting on something from Wolfsburg at the moment and that is on the slow boat I presume.
Depends on how they sent it. UPS and FedEx both are here, but if they sent it through the normal post, that's when it is totally slow.
I take it you don't know anyone else here in the APO system anymore??

I'll fill in for the Leverkusen fans.
I don't think the team has the mentality to succeed in the long run, especially not in more than one competitions. I don't think that is an issue exclusive for Leverkusen but for other Buli clubs as well.

It is definitely a problem in Dortmund.....

I think thats why a lot of German clubs fail in Europe and early in the Cup, not enough quality in depth and not mentally there to play effectively over 2 or 3 competitions.

I agree. That old "ruthless" German mentality in football was lost sometime after 1990.
That 1996 German National team was the last to display it. Sometime after that, it was lost in club football too.
Think of Bayern since 2001. Have they been the same?
Even though Dortmund won the Bundesliga and made the UEFA Cup Final in 2002, we lost that mentality well before then and still haven't come close to getting it back......
And as we've agreed upon, Leverkusen has just never had it.....

Yup, its true. I think German clubs rely more on talent now and not the mentality whereas the past they displayed both. Unfortunately for German football, the talent hasn't exactly been able to rival the talent of other leagues in the last decade or so. Hopefully the new generation brings that back.

No. I have a few friends that are no longer in the military that married and still live over there in various locations though.
I am used to the 2 week or so shipping as I am usually not in a hurry. I guess when one online store does such a good job, I feel spoiled so the rest seem even slower.:p

Didn't expect Leverkusen, Hamburg, and Wolfsburg to crash and burn in the German cup tournament.

As regards the "German mentality" discussion, I partially agree. I would agree that it has greatly waned, no doubt but it is still present at the full NT level. For instance, none would have thought that Germany was going to make the WC Final in Asia (2002): the lead-up to that tourney was disastrous, to put it lightly. Yet the team pulled together and without any stars, made it all the way to the game vs. Brazil (only real individual standouts in that team were Kahn on a league of his own and Didi Hamann).
Something similar happened in 2006, though in this case the team had home avdg. on its favor and far more individual quality. Most people (myself included) did not expect the Nationalmannschaft to get that far, and playing so well.
My 2 Chilean pesos! :)

actually i disagree cos i think the 2002 team had better "individual" quality ie more seasoned players with more achievements under their belts. When the team is made up of players from the 2001 bayern and 2002 leverkusen sides that's a very good just for a start.

Very good interview with Heynckes, about present and past. Highly recommended read, if you understand the language (German interview):

Now that would be very funny for any Bayern fan if Jupp should really win the first championship for Leverkusen this season. :-))

Hey if they continue doing it like they have so far no one can say they didn't deserve it. Very impressive start to the season. Leverkusen actually has a good defense this year.

that was quite an impressive win today. they didn't waste any time and instead just jumped on Frankfurt's throat from the beginning. It was 3-0 before I could even get settled and comfortable on my couch.:p

i saw tt match as well. not to discredit u guys but frankfurt defence was awful. they gave so much space for kroos to have a shot and let Reinartz had a free header.
