As much as i would like to brag about the G's it is all in vain until we win the MLS Cup. Through the history of the league we have been the most successful team in the league with that one black mark in our record. We have won every other competion we have entered at least once. So is this our year or should we get our bestman suits to the cleaners??

I agree. Though our form is much improved in the recent stretch, and we seem to stand in good position to take 1st or 2nd place in the league, I don't really see us being able to take it all the way this year.

I make it a point to keep my expectations low. That was surprises are always pleasant.

We have what it takes, and we've had it before in other MLS Cups, just having what it takes isn't enough to actually take it. =)

I mean, we've shown we can beat any team in MLS on any given day, heck we can dominate teams on any given day; but like the rest of the league every team seems to be so erratice, who knows, even if DC or New England can squeak into they playoffs they could win the cup.

I don't think anyone this year looks like a favorite (not San Jose, I think there's a blow up there waiting to happen with LD).

We have always had what it took to win the championship since the leagues inspetion. But what ends up happening is that someone or something changes the course of events which should provide us with our Championship.

We seem to be the Phil Mickelson of soccer.

The Best Team to never win the Cup.

We gotta another good chance this year. I think the boys will give a harder push into the playoff run than even, seeing it is a now or never situation for some of the guys.

So far it is pretty even obviously were are content but not happy as a whole. If we dont win it this year i think its time for a choaching change, Maybe Hudson? I think he has the goods to lead us to the promise land.

I reserve the right to remain optimistic & say that we will win MLS Cup 2002!!!

There's NO question that we have the talent & players to win the whole thing. It's just a question of "clicking on all cylinders" and working AS A TEAM.

There are some keys IMHO to our lifting the Cup in October:

(1) Hartman MUST step up his game. He's been solid, but he can be BETTER!!

(2) Ruiz must stay healthy & keep playing aggressive (without losing his "cool" & getting carded). And above all, he MUST continue to score GOOOOOOOOLS!!

(3) Hopefully, Cobi can continue his INCREDIBLE play of late, so as to take some pressure off of "El Pescadito."

(4) Lalas must continue his EXCEPTIONAL play on D. He's playing like he's 10 years younger. Actually, he's playing better than he ever did with the USMNT (Maybe Califf should take notes).

Realistically, the MOST important point is that EVERYBODY on the team contribute, in some way, to our success. If that happens, there's no reason why we shouldn't be hoisting the trophy in Foxboro in October.

I do agree with ssanchez that, if we don't win MLS Cup this year, we MUST make a coaching change. I like Sigi, but three years is enough time to deliver
a championship, especially considering our talent level.

no!you have no chance of winning, first of all:have you forgotten that you are the Buffalo Bills of the M.L.S.(0 for 3) and second of all: you would have to beat S.J. 2 out of 3 in the playoffs and i don't see that happening and third:you suck!and always will. thank you

Gotta say, profiled...very astute and grounded comment--your first statement. Second paragraph rings pretty true, too. The third paragraph sniffs reality but there is no problem with Donovan in the Quakes' team dynamic other than his starting at attacking mid instead of forward. San Jose has depth. Their trouble right now is no one hitting net. Graziani and/or LD could change that. With a month to go and 4 of the 7 remaining games at home for SJ, though, I'd say "good luck in the Open Cup" because the best L.A. will see on the MLS table will be #3. (Remember, East winner is #2...even though you guys are WAY better than anyone there with the possible exception of Chicago) I think you need to send a little hate mail to Dallas, personally. THEY are your biggest problem right now!

i'm afraid i don't think this is our season (again) at the end of last season, apart from the disapointment i saw a team playing. it wasn't spectacular a lot of the time, but there was a huge effort from everyone on the field.

i don't see that this year.

I believe every year since 96 we have been good enough to win it. But let me put it this way. This year is the least confident I have been about the G's

I suppose its a sign of fundamental (and well warranted) insecurity that they spend almost as much time talking about GaLAxy fans as they do about Landon's abs.

I see Danny Califf is still on our team.

After the crew prefomance, it is a definite " NO "

Time to sweeten the deal to get Hong NOW! Unretire Cal! Where's the dude from Lichtenstein? Or was it Andorra? Defense is the foundation of a championship team. If we can't afford a first rate Serie A central defender, and we can't even keep good MLS defenders (Fraser, Vanney, et al), we will not win the cup without some creative head-hunting.

Still, old and slow as they are, with 'Lexi and Cien we are a better team than we were Wednesday.

I vote "maybe."

Uhh, you refer to the team as the G's...G as in geezers right. I can predict the future....and I see.. I see all of you whiping your tears...from a tragic loss and not being able to get the cup this time.

Truth be told, both are sources of hilarity for us. The "abz" talk is reserved for the teen crowd on our boards. (We've tried to "shepherd" them into their own thread but we're happy to have another generation of Quakes fans participating.) We're more concerned about potentially losing part of the FUTURE of U.S. soccer (Donovan) rather than watching the PAST fade (Jones/Lalas.)

Good luck to you in the Open Cup. We want the M.L.S. Cup (again)...the one that is nationally televised.

WHO GOT DA RING????? (DeRosario and co.)
