Tough task for QotS now after tonights result.
Always going to be difficult for them when they had to play the home leg 100miles away from Dumfries.
Queen of the South 1 Nordsjaelland 2

Forgot about that one. It was always going to be tough for QoS. Can't see them getting anything in Denmark.

i was thinking of having a general scottish clubs in europe thread.. but seeing as hibs, rangers and likely QoS are going out at the first hurdle i seems pointless.

Mon the mighty Queens!!!
Shattered about the lose, haven't read the full match report but we should of atleast got a draw & not let two goals go through. Going to be very hard now traveling to there ground, as they will just sit back and defend all match.

Well that sucked, I was thinking at worst we could get a draw out of the match. Going to be hard to win on the road, plus the 2 away goals we gave up.

I was stunned when I saw QoS in Europe...well done!
I wish them all the best in the return leg, but
I'm not going to get my hopes up.

thats a bloody good effort considering the trek they had to make on a Thursday night.
just a pity they couldn't get the result they desired at home.
still, stranger things have happened, but i can't see them making it through now.
although i hope i'm wrong.

It was always going to be hard for QotS, playing what is effectively 2 away games. And New Broomfield isn't exactly a place you can get an atmosphere with only 4,500 there. It would have been much better for them at Palmerston, where i'm sure they could've taken the draw and given themselves a slim chance.
This runner up team in the Scottish cup is always a disaster for us in the UEFA cup. Dunfermline (twice), Dundee Utd and Gretna have all had terrible results in recent seasons.

FC Nordsjaelland 2
(Bernburg 85, 90)
Queen of the South 1
(Harris 2)
Agg: 4-2
a good effort by the Doonhamers and they haven't let anyone down. did really well first half and took the lead from a long range shot that took a slight deflection. they were by far the better team in the first half and played the match at an incredibly high tempo. so much so that it was hard to see how they would mange to continue it in the second half.
sadly, the couldn't. the Danes passing was far sharper and the Queens players couldn't get as close to them as they did in the second half. as the clocked ticked away they pushed forward looking for the second goal they needed and the Danes hit them twice on the break. Bernburg is being chased by the bigger teams in Denmark and at only 20 he certainly showed a lot of promise and some cool finishing.

Damn, they only had to score the 2nd goal ... and the surprise would have occured. Well, those late 2 goals they conceded, are meaningless in the end.

Well that sucked. I never expected to advance but two 2-1 losses hurts. I think we were the better team tonight from all accounts.

Motherwell have French opposition in their attempt to make it to the UEFA cup group stage.
1st leg: Nancy - Motherwell, 18th September
2nd leg: Motherwell - Nancy, 2nd October
Nancy had a terrific season last year in France before losing their way near the end of the season. should be a tough tie.

Nancy 1
(Berenguer 42)
Motherwell 0
missed the first half but on the strength of the final result it seems Mothers still have a good chance of progressing in Europe although they have Graeme Smith to thank for some outstanding goalkeeping. in particular a penalty save after a foul by Mark Reynolds and a 30yd dipper he backpeddled to reach and tip onto the bar.
speaking of Reynolds, it looked from his second half performance like he really struggled again. Jamie Murphy impressed when he came on near the end.
hopefully they can get the right result in a couple of weeks time at Fir Park.
good backing from the 2,000 fans they took as well.

i hope Motherwell stuff Nancy on Thursday night. McGhee is seething from the treatment they received from the French club in the first leg. the Motherwell manager believes there was a lack of respect shown to his club.
no excuse for that in this day and age. they'll have a full house at Fir Park and as long as they get the first goal they'll have every chance of getting to the group stages of the UEFA cup. Aberdeen acquitted themselves well in it last season so hopefully Motherwell can make it into the groups and have a similar run this season.

our European co-efficient is going to take a hammering the season after next unless Celtic get a decent/good run in the CL/UEFA cup for the rest of this year.
