9 year old Canadian soccer star Gianni and his dad were interviewed by Local BC news, and they did a one minute video too:

All the best to the kiddo.
Hopefully he doesn't end up playing for Spain, or his dad's or mom's native country.

is this thread turning into a product placement???
anyways, I assure you that the situation with soccer in Canada is not so desperate that we have to start looking to 9 year olds as prospects.
There are thousands of kids in his position. by the time he's 18 he might not even be playing anymore.

I don't think that there are 'thousands of kids', who went to Barcelona (or any other major Football team city) and tried out for the program, made the team, and then moved there to play.
Can you think of any others?
Messi did something similar at 13.
I think that he should be supported, not criticized.

Ultimately we should take this as very gooed news, because even if Gianni doesn't pan out in the end, it shows that the profile of Canadian players is growing, which ultimately means a better national team for us in the future. The number of players we lose to countries that trained them will increase but there'll also be more well trained Canadian talent playing for us.
