From World Soccer News:
Milan get £40 million offer for Shevchenko from Madrid
First Published: Aug 13, 2002
Real Madrid have offered AC Milan £40 million for their star striker Andriy Shevchenko.
Milan are in contact with the European champions over the bid for their top striker with agents also involved.
The offer from Madrid is a new world record for a striker but any deal woul;d have to be completed with the Ukrainian missing the Italian side's Champions League qualifier tomorrow night.
If Shevchenko turns out for Milan tomorrow he would then be cup-tied until later in the season threatening a transfer to the Spanish club.
Negotiations are progressing for Shevchenko - a long term transfer target for Madrid - to move to Spain as he emerges as their top target again.
Madrid have been linked with Hernan Crespo and Ronaldo already this summer but have not made any significant transfer moves to sign the penalty box finisher who is their top priority.
A move for Shevchenko would see Madrid off load Fernando Morientes with Tottenham keen to sign the Spanish international.
