Has anyone ever heard anything about Sky Sports becoming available in the US? Whenever I watch Sky Sports News on FSC I feel like I am being tortured by the advertising of upcoming games in HD.

The same thing happens (meaning the announcement of which channel to watch the upcoming game in HD) at the beginning of matches broadcast on Setanta that are of Sky Sports origin, such as the Coca-Cola Championship matches and the domestic (UK) Champions League matches.

No major English Language foreign channels can be broadcast in the USA for two HUGE reasons that will NEVER change:

- The programs of those channels originating in those countries have already been sold to USA channels. In the example of Sky Sports, the English Premiership matches have already been sold to Setanta and FSC. The Sky Sports News has already been sold to FSC, which is why you are able to watch it.

AND

- Various programs of those channels originate from the USA, and can only be shown on their original USA channels. For example, Sky One shows top uS programs like 24, Lost, Heroes, etc. which can only be shown in the US by Fox, ABC and NBC. So, Sky One cannot be shown in the US.

Between those two points, there are very few foreign English Language channels that could be shown legally in the USA.

PS FSC claims they are working on having HD in the near future, but no more details are available than that...

Both GolTV and Setanta have no plans to go HD.

La Liga is available in HD on WorldSportHD, but that channel is only available on select Cablevision cable TV systems, and the channel may go out of business any day now anyway...

PS Currently there is a full time Olympics Soccer Channel in HD on Dish Network...

Do you really think FSC HD will happen?

Another thing real quick....Why is it that standard definition channels such as FSC & GolTV look worse and have much less clarity on my brand new 46" Samsung LCD HDTV than they do when I watch them on my regular old Sony thirtysomething inch non-HDTV that has now been moved o the bedroom? It is extremely frustrating. I keep it in the 16:9 mode rather than widening the picture because then it smooshes everybody, but it still doesn't matter. It's hard to even make out #s on the back of jerseys! I don't get it. But the HD games I watch, such as the Olympics, are Phenomenal! Any thoughts?

Of course Sky Sports and FSC are owned by the same corporate empire (Which is why Sky Sports is on FSC in the first place) so the problem of FSC owning the rights to shows that a mythical Sky Sports US might show can be easily dealt with.

The other points would have to be dealt with though.

In other words if Murdoch's crew imagined calling the channel "Sky Sports USA" instead of "Fox Soccer Channel" they would do it, but little else would change.

I don't see a change. Doubtless the "Fox" brand benefits more from the thinks like the Simpsons and "20th Century Fox" memories than it suffers from the toxicity of "fair and balanced".
