"American midfielder Eddie Lewis is set to join the LA Galaxy. The Galaxy have apparently passed on Cory Gibbs and acquired the rights to Eddie Lewis. The 34 year old midfielder left Major League Soccer in 1999, joining Fulham. Lewis had a long career in England, seeing him play for Preston North End, Leeds United and most recently with Derby County..."

Interesting, wonder what his salary is.

Acquire more offense instead of defense? Who's running the show there?

Dumb move. This team needs defense not offense.

Wow, they have David Beckham and now the American left-footed David Beckham.

In truth we really haven't had a left sided midfielder of any quality for a long time. (Previous season left mids have been Josh Gardner, Kyle Martino, Mike Randolph, Ante Jazic, Franchino and Donovan playing out of position) So, this does address a serious need for us.

It may not be our most pressing need, but I can understand why we'd pick Lewis up instead of Gibbs. (especially if we weren't impressed with his physical which I assume we conducted by now)

They must have had doubts about Gibbs' health. OTOH, the Gals REALLY don't have a left mid. Unless they want to put Randolph there and Jazic or Vanney at left back.

Gibbs in NE is interesting, since they just picked up a defender. I'm guessing that means Gibbs at LB, and Igwe and Heaps to the bench.

There was a time when US Soccer claimed Eddie Lewis was the "American David Beckham" :p

more proof that if you're even a mildly competent LM you can find work damn near anywhere.

the galaxy need to bring in defenders. wayne bridge even admitted he would be interested in playing in mls. they should have laid off on the attck and gone for him. believe he's signed a new chelsea deal now.

If this is true, it is truly disappointing. Just when it seems the Galaxy are making their smartest move of the year to become a true MLS cup contender, they do this. Lewis will be a good addition talent-wise, but his style doesn't exactly mesh with that of Beckham, Donovan, and Buddle. Plus the fact that fixing that defense should have been the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd priorities.

btw, why not get rid of Vagenas, Vanney, and Ruiz, then get both Gibbs and Lewis . . . . .

From what I read in an article it seems Gibbs is not interested in joining us but our rival? Does anyone think there is truth to that? If he doesn't want to join then I am just as happy with getting Lewis.

Didn't lewis play left back almost exclusively for Derby last year?

Wouldn't Lewis be slightly pricey? Wow, these guys can stretch a cap. So frugal.
