Hey everybody,

Thought I'd get a thread out to discuss the list of 20 players Domenech has chosen for the friendly against Sweden. Yes, it's only a friendly, but plenty of Bleus supports will have their eyes on whether Domenech has actually improved the style, selection, organization, etc. that he said he would.

Anyway, here's the list:

Gardiens de but:

Hugo Lloris (Lyon)
Steve Mandanda (Marseille)

Défenseurs:

Jean Alain Boumsong (Lyon)
Gaël Clichy (Arsenal)
Patrice Evra (Man Utd)
Rod Fanni (Rennes)
William Gallas (Arsenal)
Philippe Mexès (Roma)
Bakary Sagna (Arsenal)

Milieux de terrain:

Alou Diarra (Bordeaux)
Lassana Diarra (Portsmouth)
Mathieu Flamini (Milan)
Jeremy Toulalan (Lyon)
Yoann Gourcuff (Bordeaux)
Florent Malouda (Chelsea)

Attaquants:

Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea)
Hatem Ben Arfa (Marseille)
Karim Benzema (Lyon)
Sidney Govou (Lyon)
Thierry Henry (Barcelona)

Why no Nasri? He's been doing well at Arsenal.

At least he called up Mexes...not that he will use him.

Pre season friendlies dont mean anything.

Domenech already knows Nasri but hasn't tested out Gourcuff yet. Having both on the squad probably means that one of them won't be able to play. Nasri will probably get a callup to WC qualifiers regardless.

-------------------------LLORIS-------------------------

-SAGNA----------GALLAS--------MEXES------------EVRA-

---------------L. DIARRA---------FLAMINI----------------

-GOURCUFF-------------------------------------BEN ARFA

------------------BENZEMA--------HENRY----------------

That's the line-up I would go with.

I don't think Cissé deserves a place, and even if he did, Domenech already knows him, since it appears, more than anything, this game will be an attempt to bring in different guys to see what they're able to do. That's why I agree with Inara that Nasri would definitely have his place here if Domenech didn't already know him, though now he wants to watch what Gourcuff can do.

The lineup I expect Domenech will have:

Mandanda
Sagna - Gallas - Mexès - Evra
Toulalan - L. Diarra
Govou - Ben Arfa/Gourcuff - Malouda
Benzema

The lineup that I'd want to see:

Lloris
Sagna - Gallas - Mexès - Clichy
Toulalan - Flamini
Ben Arfa - - - Malouda
Benzema - Henry

Oh and stop calling up Govou please.

Hey Inara,

Is there any way that you can edit my first post? I've realized I left out Toulalan among the midfielders, my mistake. :o

Nasri is out as well.

Domenech is going with the following lineup:
Mandanda - Sagna, Mexès, Gallas, Evra - Govou, Toulalan, L. Diarra, Malouda - Henry (cap.), Benzema.

My thoughts: Lloris should be ahead of Mandanda, and I don't understand why Frei was not called up.

Defence is fine.

Govou and Malouda should never be Bleus ever again.

Unless Henry turns things around quick, he should not be a starter anymore, let alone a captain.

Govou and Malouda should never be Bleus ever again.

France doesn't exactly have a lot of wingers available. With Ribery out, those two are the most experienced ones. Rothen, Giuly, and Pires aren't part of the NT setup anymore, and I'm not convinced that they would do any better than Govou and Malouda for Les Bleus. There are some promising younger players, but they have a ways to go.

Good to see that Mexes is in there, even if he is a Roma player.

Let's just hope that Domenech takes this campaign seriously.

Ironically, they were 2 of the best players on the pitch yesterday. Who knew?
