Itching for the beautiful game? Can’t live without your weekly dose of footy? Want to train on a weekly basis and play some extremely high quality amateur football on Sunday mornings? Want to help build a club (on and off the field) this season and beyond? If so, then read on because this is for you….
CHANGING DIVISIONS
EMC FC has played in Metropolitan Division two of the Cosmopolitan Soccer League for the past four years. But this summer we’ve taken the decision to make the move up to Cosmopolitan Division Two, a better, more competitive league that necessitates a second team as well as a rst team. Having only ever fielded one team it’s a significant upgrade to make and it means we have to make a big recruitment effort.
The standard of football is very good (for both teams) so we’re looking for solid players who want to make the commitment to the team for the full season. In addition, we want guys who are actively looking to train each week. We understand that you can’t make it to every game and every training session but we’re recruiting for players who want to help grow the club and to be involved on a regular basis.
TRY OUTS
As for try-outs we have three Tuesday evening sessions booked at The Octagon from 8-10pm on Roosevelt Island on 8/12, 8/19 and 8/26 (Roosevelt Island is just one stop on the F-Train from the 63rd and Lexington stop and just three stops from Rockefeller Center. You can also get there by overhead cable car). These Tuesday sessions will be on a full size grass eld (in good condition) and under floodlights. Email denis@emcfc.com if you need a ride.
I realize it’s hard to work out what sort of standard the league is and how you might t in so let me put it another way:
the football is extremely competitive and Cosmopolitan Division One (the division above us) has teams that have won the US Open Cup and have long and illustrious histories. Division Two also contains a number of very strong teams and the football will be fast, technically procient and always, always competitive. There will be no throwaway games against easy teams this season, that’s for sure.
The season runs for a total of 16 league games as well as participation in a Cup competition and is played in two distinct halves.
First Half: Sept 14–Dec 15, 2008
Second Half : Late March – June 1, 2009
If you’re interested in coming to training please let me know and I’ll send you more detailed maps/directions or if you just have questions don’t hesitate to contact me.
Best,
Danny
