Would having a pot of 5 (or 10) points for each goal be an interesting idea? Then, this can be distributed amongst the players in proportion of their direct contribution to the goal.
This might be useful to see the end-product as well as how often certain players are involved.
5pts would be fine.

Sorry for the silly question, I have never known the answer to this. Does the corner kick taker get an assist if scored directly off the kick?

We have to wait for DS to find that out. Things are a little complicated under his format [;)]

Sounds cool... how about we track the stats from now, but only really take it seriously from the 2nd half of the season onwards (for objective purposes)?
Thinking about it some more, we should use a 4pt scale.
The way I see it, a goal is no less than 2. Certain goals however are 3. Those goals are individual acts like Ronaldo vs Fulham or a directly from a fk. On a "3" there is no assist awarded cuz the goalscorer did all the work.
In a situation where the goalscorer gets a clear assist the assist can be worth 1 or 2. Berbatov's assist to Ronaldo against WH was worth 2 pts (it was easily as important to the goal as Ronaldo's part). Also in the WH game, Ronaldo's other goal was set up by Nani. Again, 2 for Ronaldo, 1 for Nani (simple cross) but also, 1 for Anderson who sent Nani through with a good pass.

I agree with 4 points too. The Fulham goal though would deserve all 4. We can start with the Hull game, should be interesting to see the numbers at the end of the season.

Well, go ahead and start the thread or send me a PM and we can decide what/how we rate the goals and assists.

goals.
Ronaldo - 7
Berbatov - 5
Rooney - 5
Fletcher - 2
Nani - 2
Vidic - 2
Brown - 1
Carrick - 1
Giggs - 1
OG - 1
Park - 1
Tevez - 1
hmm...
The manager better keep saying Tevez is happy...
If he ain't bothered yet, he will be as the others (bolded) leave him in the dust.

I am wondering whether you two will dump this when you realize there's work involved and it's a season's commitment...
:D
Not that I think you two don't put in a shift on here, or nuthin...

That's why I was reluctant in the first place. However if there are 2 of us it makes it easier.

Tevez might be happy but I am unhappy with Tevez.

So Carrick can shoot with the left ,he can shoot with the right he can hit 20-25 yarders he can run into the box and finish(havent seen him head a goal even though he is one of the tallest players we have) so why dont he shoot more often he can definately get 6-8 goals a season.

I think he'll end up with 4 or 5 this year.
Fletch is already on 3, and could be on 5 given some of the chances he's fluffed.

I hope Carrick presses on, but I think that will only be true in matches where his partner is Fletch or Anderson.

It was clearly Fletch's goal.
I am not the: the official Premier League site, both official club sites, the rest of the media, the official fantasy game or the bookies, innit.
I think the dubious goals panel will amend the decision, by the way.
Hmm...
The Premier League's Dubious Goals Panel has viewed all dubious goals this season up to 21st October 2008.
The Dubious Goals Committee has ruled on the following:
2) Manchester United's goal against Portsmouth on 25th August has been confirmed as a Darren Fletcher goal.
