Between our two top scorers there hasn't been a single finish outside of the right foot.

If you're about to get onto that two-footed nonsense then I really am out of here.

Funny Ronaldo had that left footed shot in the first half iirc that he crushed just an inch or two wide and I remember saying to myself he's really become selective and he seems to only take sitters or well set up shots with his left foot.

I remember in his first few seasons he'd try a few left-footers a match.

Funny that Rooney also missed an easy left footer in this match, the volley with the open goal that he skied.

Yesterday was a good case study for a secondary assist thread as it exemplified what johno was saying about that stuff.

Ronaldo's shot that led to the deflected goal is a proven routine for us, but technically, that's no assist in the purest sense of the word.

I was thinking the same thing.

Does Tevez get the assist to Rooney?

I was thinking the same thing yesterday while watching the match.

"I wonder what DS will say about this."

ahem :D

I think 2nd assist ought to be included in any of these sorts of stats, as many times its the second assist which makes the goal. Where there is no meaningful 1st or 2nd assist, then include neither.

What say our board to this ^outsiders^ request?

:D

it was posted as a nerd rather than a fan :D

I think 2nd Assister is a good idea... but then again, I also think keeping tab of defence opening passes (even if they don't lead to a goal) - strictly for my knowledge as a fan - is a good idea.

Also, this thread I believe will bring to the forefront one of my reasons for giving Nani a more prominent role. We win lots of corners, he's brilliant at taking them and they've twice been the difference in just 9 matches on the season.

Johno why don't you compile the thread so that I can leach all your hardwork?

Would you also mind compiling goals and assists per minute?

I'm lazy. Well, that and I can't guarantee that I'll see all the matches live or at all. I'd be willing to try, but only if someone agreed to help.

Do you guys not actually check the first two posts of this thread that are updated after each match day?

It shows all decisions, assists and goals to date, y'konw...

I always check, but usually just to make sure you got the team we're playing against right. ;)

Looks like the charts are starting to take shape now.

With the way Ronaldo converts and his return to full fitness being around the corner, I think he's going to zoom off into a lead in the charts - even playing below his standard he's joint top scorer whilst you'd say Wayne is playing his best footy and Berba-do isn't the goal-hungry type to care about being top-scorer.

I still think Nani will be our top assister again, which would be quite an achievement considering how few minutes he plays compared to the rest.

I think Ronaldo will be. He has a target that can actually convert now.

Interesting thread. I've created a website for Liverpool's data here

Would having a pot of 5 (or 10) points for each goal be an interesting idea? Then, this can be distributed amongst the players in proportion of their direct contribution to the goal.

This might be useful to see the end-product as well as how often certain players are involved.
