Again hoping I can figure out the reformatting of columns after a few edits, I'll kick off the post-draft discussion with the following stats:
Showing the total amounts each squad spent for goalies - defenders - midfielders - forwards:
The Class Acts (United Forever) - 10.5 - 28.5 - 35.0 - 25.5
Kopite Juniors (kopiteinkc) ------- 9.5 - 28.5 - 34.0 - 28.0
blechs_dawgs (blech) ---------- 11.0 - 28.5 - 38.5 - 21.0
Tally Road (riot71) ------------- 10.5 - 31.0 - 34.5 - 23.5
Rockville Gunners (Cannon) ----- 10.5 - 28.0 - 32.5 - 28.0
Pork Soda (djangone) ---------- 10.0 - 26.0 - 36.0 - 25.0
LSG Royston Vasey (Ingromius) - 10.0 - 27.5 - 36.5 - 24.5
Raytown Rangers (kuhnscoot) -- 10.0 - 30.5 - 35.5 - 24.0
Perhaps more helpful to look at, these are the "per player" averages at each position:
The Class Acts (United Forever) - 5.25 - 5.70 - 7.00 - 8.50
Kopite Juniors (kopiteinkc) ------ 4.75 - 5.70 - 6.80 - 9.33
blechs_dawgs (blech) ---------- 5.50 - 5.70 - 7.70 - 7.00
Tally Road (riot71) ------------- 5.25 - 6.20 - 6.90 - 7.83
Rockville Gunners (Cannon) ----- 5.25 - 5.60 - 6.50 - 9.33
Pork Soda (djangone) ---------- 5.00 - 5.20 - 7.20 - 8.33
LSG Royston Vasey (Ingromius) - 5.00 - 5.50 - 7.30 - 8.17
Raytown Rangers (kuhnscoot) -- 5.00 - 6.10 - 7.10 - 8.00
* riot71 and kuhnscoot were the big spenders on defenders, while djangone spent the least
* blech was the big spender in the midfield, while Cannon spent the least
* kopiteinkc and Cannon were the big spenders on forward, while blech spent the least
Of course, the averages can be misleading or skewed by the acquisition of one or two very high priced players, and it ultimately says very little not knowing what formation each squad will put on the field.
Breaking the draft into three periods, here is the breakdown of how teams used their funds in the beginning, middle, and end of their drafts:
-
-------------------------------- 1 to 5 -- 6 to 10 -- 11 to 15
The Class Acts (United Forever) - 39.5 ---- 35.5 ---- 24.5
Kopite Juniors (kopiteinkc) ------ 39.5 ---- 28.5 ---- 32.0
blechs_dawgs (blech) ---------- 43.0 ---- 26.5 ---- 29.5
Tally Road (riot71) ------------- 40.0 ---- 33.0 ---- 26.5
Rockville Gunners (Cannon) ----- 43.5 ---- 29.5 ---- 26.0
Pork Soda (djangone) ---------- 44.0 ---- 28.5 ---- 24.5
LSG Royston Vasey (Ingromius) - 42.0 ---- 30.0 ---- 26.5
Raytown Rangers (kuhnscoot) -- 41.5 ---- 29.0 ---- 29.5
* blech, Cannon, and djangone spent the most early,
* United and riot were the big spenders in the middle,
* kopite, blech, and kuhnscoot spent the most at the end
Skewed (of course) by the purchase of Ronaldo, djangone spent the most for 5 picks at 44.0
Everyone spent more on the first third and the later thirds. The majority of teams spent more in the middle than the end, but kopiteinkc, blech and kuhnscoot did manage to spend more on the last third than the middle third.
Interesting to note as well that kopiteinkc and kuhnscoot were the only two teams to use all of the funds.

I didn't draft Marney
aaack. sorry about that. i was within the edit window that allowed me to make that change - it was olafinana not marney, right? hopefully no other errors..., but i'll try to double check it later. if everyone can take a quick look at their own team, that would probably be the easiest way to identify any other errors.

I marvel at djangone picking Ronaldo and still having 3.0 in the bank:eek:
Yeah when I saw that he was going to end up with that much cash I was a bit surprised. Pretty cheap defense and mids (other than Ronaldo of course). I am interested in seeing how many moves are made on this squad before the season starts.
So how do people feel about their drafts? Did it go largely as planned or not?
I'm pretty happy. Only missed out on three players (not naming them) that I had planned to sign and the only major change in my plan was a reaction to the run on keepers in the middle of the draft but I'm pleased with how that worked out. Of course I fully expect my team to fall apart before next weekend since every season that seems to happen as my early key picks all get weird injuries or are benched due to transfer issues coming up.:D

10 Aug 2008, 08:09 PM
I missed out on a whole shedload of players I'd hoped to get -- but they were none of them big sleepers and I'm sure we'd all have liked them on our squad. Plus I've finally acquired enough self-knowledge to know that I will transfer out all but 2 or 3 of them, some of them multiple times, before May.
But blech's favorite move of mine -- the in-and-out twist at transfer deadline -- will not be a feature of LSG Royston Vasey this season!

10 Aug 2008, 11:18 PM
I won't be lulled to sleep by LSG promises that the "in-and-out twist" has been retired, particularly when he has not yet had a "key" player suffer an injury. I'm confident that one of these days I'm actually going to wake up at 3 a.m. and snag you mid-transfer. And, even if I don't, I'll continue to enjoy counting your transfer points....
I always find the "analysis" side difficult b/c it involves everyone's personal biases. I can run the numbers, but the real question is which 7.0 midfielder will be the man, and that shows up right now in everyone's bank as only 7.0.
As for my draft, I'll say only that it didn't pan out the way I had planned or expected in mnay respects. I never thought for a moment that I would be getting the first midfielder at the third pick, and my underestimation of everyone's focus on forwards continued throughout the draft. I hadn't planned to start out M-M-D, but adjusted as I went as I felt like I had no choice given my view of value and the players that were available at those positions.
For what it's worth, and without considering or including my own team, I'm most concerned right now about the teams drafted by Cannon and Ingromius. I think both have good balance and have a lot of upside potential as well. So, there is a locker room quote the rest of you can use to motivate your squads, as well as presumably a hex on the two of them as the fact that I like several of their players can't be good news for them.... :)

Well got to play the waiting game. My squad is full of gambles.
Will Bent get enough PT and will he put it to use?
Will Giovanni adapt to the league fast enough?
Will Nasri likewise?
Will Barry even be playing at Aston Villa?
This is the beauty of the draft.:D

Benefits of counting down using an atomic clock I guess. :p :D
I wanted Shorey as soon as I heard of the trade so my last pick was really a bit of a throw away. Glad I got there first. If G.Neville stays healthy that will be a good pick up for you. I was never going to go near him since I got burned bad when I drafted him last year. I'm trying to avoid the old guys and sicknotes as much as possible.

Mike knows I was interested in Shorey too. But I had a long day on Sunday and couldn't stay awake long enough to dump Warnock :)
On Blackburn, I think they are in for a rough season. They have lost some good players, haven't replaced them with any quality and Ince is not in the same league as Hughes as a manager.
As for my own draft, I am not very happy with it. Too many panicked picks after some players I wanted were taken. I am disappointed in myself for not having a stronger back up list. I have a few riskier picks than most and I know they won't all pan out. But as long as I am in striking distance at the end look out for me in the last gameweek. I plan to vault from 7th to 3rd in the last week again :)
Don't have time to review everyone's picks, but at a very quick glance I think Cannon had the best draft. Very impressive stuff. But everyone has solid squads and I expect a competitive active season of transfers/trading and wheeling and dealing.

If everyone is healthy, the Dawgs' lineup will look like this:
---------------- Howard --------------
-- L.Young -- Terry -- Gallas -- Dossena --
- A. Young - Cahill - Gerrard (c) - Nolan--
---------- Crouch ---- Alves ------------
Subs - Gomes, Figueroa, De Ridder, Kitson
As expected with lower price players, the entirety of my bench is somewhat sketchy but all have some hope in my view and hopefully I can at least count on 2 of the 3 of them to play every week..... Of course, I need Gerrard to have a solid season as I don't plan to play games with the captain assignments // thought long and hard about Cesc for that first pick. And it also won't hurt if Dossena avoids Rafatation and establishes himself as a regular threat. And my fingers remain crossed that everyone's racing to get Shorey is midguided and that he does not interfere with Ashley Young's taking of freekicks, etc. I haven't gone back through the round-by-round to figure out where I could/should have done something different, but I definitely could use another more stable/solid defender rather than having to hope Dossena works out.
I am reminded how the 100 cap really does equalize things to a substantial degree.

I would think Cahill's injury would give you pause for thought too. He is supposed to be on the mend, but I don't know how well recovered (and therefore effective) he will be.
Maybe it's the Liverpool fan in me, but I don't see Everton having a very good season this time around.
