View Full Version : Community Shield on FSC looks really bad!

I'm not sure why but this morning's Community Shield match on FSC looks really pixellated, far more than anything else I've ever seen on the channel.
I'm watching on Dish and it really looks horrible.
Almost low-res.
Anyone else watching?

I wonder if it's because Dish has been adding more HD channels and over-compressing their SD channels to gain a little more bandwidth for HD?

Regardless, FSC needs to go HD at some point sooner than later.

I was watching on Setanta and i had the same issue. It was pixelated and was losing the sound. I was worried that it was my box but I guess it was a bigger problem.

I watched most of the game on FSC on my FIOS system (as well as some parts on Setanta off of Globecast) and detected no such problems that you speak of. If, on the other hand, you're referring to the quality of the play itself, I would tend to agree.

Of course after watching mostly Olympic Soccer in HD on the NBC Soccer Channel these past few days, watching a game in SD was definitely a step down in quality.

I didn't have any issues with Comcast (surprisingly).

ps - started watching in the 20th minute.

After watching Euro 2008 in glorious HD, watching the CS on Setanta yesterday is really, really a step down. But you have to keep perspective, because 10 years ago I didn't know what the Community Shield was because I had never seen it and had no way to see it.

Had the same problem here on comcast. Annoying but will really cause me to lose it if it is like that going forward.

I'll second that. To think that 10 years ago I was resigned to watching random champions league matches on ESPN and little else. I really have no reason to complain anymore.

I read Jammy's post before watching the game (recorded the FSC version on my DirecTV DVR) so I recorded the Setanta re-airing that occurred later that day. When I finally started watching, I did not notice much difference in the first few minutes of either broadcast, although Setanta's colors looked a bit richer. And the image looked fine (no different than most FSC or Setanta matches), but I have an SD TV.

If I heard correctly - the plan is to go HD in Spring of '09 barring any complications. Failing that, HD for the start of the 09-10 EPL season.

However, at this point in time, FSR will not be joining them and will continue to be analog.

Perhaps someone needs to start a thread urging both FSC & FSR to get on the HD bandwagon already!

That's because Setanta pays more for a better signal.
