It's going to be close between China and USA. Hopefully the US wins gold in basketball which would help a lot :D

Agreed - the official table looks slightly different to that shown by riverplate though as placings are determined by the number of gold medals, then silver then bronze rather than the format he's used which just adds up the total medals

He's used "American version of IOC rules" :D
I'm saying nothing :D
The spread of medal types is pretty bizarre - the US are picking up approx even numbers of all medal types in comparison to China. To have almost double the number of golds as silver/bronze combined shows how effective they've been in targeting their sports

China being ahead in the gold medal count isn't all that surprising. The US usually comes out of the gate a little conservatively.
Wait for track & field to start, that's when the US usually racks up a lot of golds and other medals (as well as the team sports). ;)
There's still a loooong way to go in these Olympics. It's going to be a tight count in the end.

On Ch 7 news in Australia they played one of the American news channels as they showed the medal tally. They had put the US on top because of their superior medal total, even though china have 12 more golds.
C'mon USA seriously who are you kidding!

It's called the "Medal Count" not the "Gold Medal Count" ;)
If you really think about it, it makes sense. China now has the most total medals anyway.
I could be biased though :p

Agree, they think they have the advantage of using underage girls but just wait till track & field when we whip out our juiced athletes:D

China is crushing everyone in number of gold medals. They have more golds than any other country has total medals (outside the U.S.)
