Hmm, intersting... Like I said, he was getting a lot of playing time pre-season for someone who is supposedly nowhere near ready.

People please don't make me hate Di Santo before he really starts playing for us.
Interesting that Ferreira changed numbers for Deco. Ferreira's been here for quite a few years now, served us admirably and just signed on for a further 4 years and yet he gives up his number to a diving Brazilian twat?

Deco has an academy that centers around the number 20 I believe, hence the switch.

So therefore he should always get 20? I am sure that Paolo, being a class guy, gave it to him willingly. I just wish Deco would piss off and take any number given to him instead of one from a player who's been a real good player for us.

Eddie, it's for advertising reasons mainly and Deco is probably going to be associated with it due to him wearing it at Barcelona and for Portugal. Same as Ballack and the number 13. I wish he would've taken whatever number available also but I'm sure Paulo understands.
Now, Di Santo and number nine, let's hope that he comes good like Crespo. Plus hope that he pushes Tevez off the Argentina squad. :D That would make the United fans mad. I'm also impressed that Rhys has a squad number now.

Also, just realized that Sinclair's number is now 16, let's hope he avoids the previous tendencies of the last person who wore it and keeps the ones we like.

It did JFH well. I'll take a similar goal record. I am not saying the kid isn't good but I just hope we don't get on a roll with him like we did with Sinclair. Scolari can talk all he wants about playing the young kids but I'll believe it when I see it.

Why? Even Lenny Pidgeley got a squad number. Hell if you watch replays of the 2003/04 title celebration, you'd think Lenny was the starting keeper. He's all over it! Though sadly he is without a club after getting released by Millwall.

Look, I agree with you but from an advertising perspective it makes sense. Imagine if Zola opened up an academy with his trademark 25 being the focal point. Would it make sense if he was wearing 24 or 26 (It was weird seeing him wear the number 10 for Calgiari) even though he wore 25 during his stint for us? No it wouldn't. I always kept thinking to see 25 on the back of Zola's shirt even though he had the number 10 at Caligari.

Well, who knows what'll happen. I'm still excited by Sinclair and Di Santo

For some odd reason I have a feeling that Rhys may be 3rd choice or even (Dare I say it?) 2nd choice in the near future. As much as I hate to say it but I have a hunch that Carlo may decide to call it quits at the end of this season (And hopefully become a coach for us) or move to another club next season.

Too bad for him. Would have served him right for basing his academy around something as impermanent as a squad number. Paolo should have kept 20 and made Deco use 19.

As much as I believe in tradition, I dont see the big deal with the number change. Paulo was willing to offer the number to Deco so its as simple as that. Seems like a few on here are trying to find another reason to spit venom at Deco. Wait until he starts diving and play acting- it will happen- and then unleash your seething hatred eh.
DiSanto with #9- an important number and interseting to see it given to a youngster. Obviously the staff have plans for this lad.
Allez, I am not sold on Rhys yet. Although the lad has represented his country at the youth levels, he has not kept goal outside of the reserves. I think a loan stint with a club in the Leagues or the Championship could do him well. And as eddie says dont forget Lenny Pidgely who was supposed to be the "next best thing" as well.

Why can't John Terry have the no.1 shirt?
This modern numbering is silly enough, so why not eh?
So what numbers for Kaka and Robinhio? ;)

Why wait until the season starts? Can't we just start now? You know so by the time the games are played we are good and frothing?

It's ROBINHO. No "I" after the "H". Just wanted to point that out.
