Round 6: Stuttgart vs. BVB Pre/Post Match Thread [R]

i'm writing today's match report for schwatzgelb.com and here is already the first part of the article regarding the situation before the match:

Match report VfB Stuttgart-Borussia Dortmund

Scenario:
This 6th Bundesliga match day could be a crucial one for the whole season. Bayer Leverkusen (1.) plays at Bayern München (5.), 1860 München (6.) at Werder Bremen (4.) and Borussia Dortmund (3.) at unbeaten VfB Stuttgart (2.).
On the one hand the Swabians collected 11 points in 5 games already. Their rock solid defense is also unbeaten till now which set up a new Bundesliga starting record. On the other hand they had problems with their strikers. VfB scored only five times and last season’s shooting star Kevin Kuranyi is without a Bundesliga goal till now. Maybe the one he scored in Champions League against Glasgow Rangers broke the ban.
Borussia Dortmund need 3 points to stay in touch with Champions League places, but comes with a lousy away record to the Gottblieb-Daimler-Stadion. They have till now not won one single Bundesliga away match in 2003! So it seems there is next to no hope for the BVB supporters….but maybe the players in Blackyellow will surprise us, who knows….

Line-up:
The bad news started on Friday already when Sammer announced that Flavio Conceicao won’t make the trip to Stuttgart.
Long time injuries are still:
Torsten Frings, Evanilson (both cruciate ligament torn /2nd part of the season), Christoph Metzelder (Achilles' tendon problems/some time in September), Guy Demel (Meniskus and cruciate ligament party ruptured/end of this year), Heiko Herrlich (torn ankle ligament/mid-September), Fernandez (sprained ankle /early or mid-October), Amoroso (torn knee ligament/end of October)
Malte Metzelder joins the squad as Fernandez adds to the injury list. Senesie and Odonkor are once again with the pro’s. (more line-up news after the match when the whole report is published)

(jonam) It is crunch time in Bundesliga! The first 6 teams of the league table were facing each other. Borusssia had a tough task with travelling to Stuttgart and the Swabian club showed that they are one number too big for Borussia Dortmund, on the road at least. Kevin Kuranyi scored the winner in the 67th minute. A deserved win, ok, but the performance by the Blackyellows was not worth talking about. Instead, it was once again a disgrace to our club!

The only change to the Werder match was Madouni instead of injured Fernandez.

First half:
The game started very nervous on both sides and with few highlights. In the early minutes it seemed that VfB and BVB weren’t able to play a pass over 10 meters to a teammate…not really the way you expect a top match to start. Stuttgart was a little bit more eager to go for Borussia’s half and box, but still no threat to Roman Weidenfeller. Both side’s defense were doing a real good job and so players like Rosicky and Alexander Hleb weren’t able to create any offensive actions. The first chance after 11 minutes. Hleb with a pass to Vranjes, who fired a shot from 18 meters towards Weidenfeller. But the young Dortmund goalkeeper with no problem to save. It was still a lousy game with VfB having more of it. In the 18th minute suddenly the chance for Borussia to score the surprising lead.
Dede with a fine run past Vranjes and a high pass to the far post where Otto Addo waited for the ball. Unfortunately he shot the ball wide…that was a fine one! Once again it was back to a game which saw two teams that weren’t willing or able to penetrate the opponent’s goal. Then it was until the 30th minute when Szabics got the ball in the penalty area. The newly signed Hungarian outplayed Andre Bergdolmo and tried to score with a fine but not powerful enough shot…no problem for Roman. VfB was now beginning to control the match. Not that it was a powerplay but they invested more than Borussia. The last chance of the first half already in the 33th minute. Soldo with a shot from more than 20 meters that was blocked. Half time break!

Really unbelievable, in 'Welt am Sonntag' I read that Magath did not lose the last 17 games (last 10 as player, all 7 as coach) against Dortmund...
