Inter and Sevilla, aka cannon fodder for our 1sts this tournament, are having an ok game? Anyone worth looking out for? I dont really like nor follow either team.

But Ferguson's comments have sparked outrage in the country, with Bassey Ndem, an organiser of the tour, telling The Sun: "They did not catch it in Nigeria.

"It's a lie from the pit of hell and it's sad someone had to go to that length to degrade Nigeria. Rooney only sat in his hotel room. He was in Nigeria for less than 24 hours."

Well that was an uninspiring match, when i caught the end i thought Swedish Big Nose and Lazyano coming on might provide something... anything... but nope, 0-0 bore draw.

My eyes are only just recovering.

Freddie Ljungberg is considering an offer to join David Beckham at LA Galaxy in a bid to crack America. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/gossip_and_transfers/default.stm)(Daily Mirror)

Freddie would do well in the US. I think he could score goals here, despite losing some speed, which was his main weapon.

ionno... not sure he would do well in the MLS... he is painfully slow now... he could do good right behind the striker tho

Obviously, it's pretty speculative that he's even go over to play there, but I always liked Freddie and hope he does well (if he goes). IIRC, at Arsenal he was on £80k/week. In MLS I believe the max is $400k or you have to be a designated player. Can't imagine he'd wanna take that much of a salary cut, unless he's angling for an acting career. Still, hope he does go, he'd be fun to watch.

I disagree that speed was ever Freddie's main weapon. He was definitely quick in his younger days....but in his best season with us (2001/2002) it was his ability to perfectly time his runs that made him so effective. He didn't rely on out-pacing defenders as much as he did making that very late run after Henry and/or Bergkamp had taken a ball into the box and then laid it off to him.

As to your main point though....I agree. I think Freddie could possibly do well in the MLS and it'd be cool to see him over here.

Not to quibble, but why would FL8 lose the ability to time his runs when he got injured? I always thought the injuries robbed him of his speed, thereby reducing his effectiveness.

Your timing always looks off when you've lost a couple of steps.

Well you have to have pace in addition to timing to make those runs and you also have to have players like Henry and Bergkamp that can draw more than one defender and then make that killer lay off pass.

My point was that Freddie was never one that relied purely on speed to beat defenders down the wing like a Lennon or Young or even pre-knee injury Overmars. That's what I thought your post was implying. If you weren't.....apologies. Note, I did say that Freddie was quick in his younger days.

No worries, I wasn't trying to have a row. Actually, I think you're right -- he did time his runs very well too. He seemed to have a very high football IQ (knew what he wanted to do with the ball), which is something Theo is still trying to develop.

A little OT, but I still love the "We Love You Freddie (Because You've Got Red Hair)" song. Listen to it on my ipod every so often when I'm feeling nostalgic.

The LA Superclub cannot afford his salary and this case would be too obvious for them to further break the salary cap rules...
Unless... the Landycakes to Chivas/Redbulls/Overseas rumors are true.
