Thought I would create a new thread so we can discuss our current Timbers season.
We support your local team, even if we are in the USL!

If we can right the ship tonight against the flounders I think our club has the talent to make a run in the playoffs. Really need to start seeing some wins and a nice 3 game home stand is just what the doctor asked for.

SAMMY SOUNDER- BELLY UP UNDER BURNSIDE
Shocking news this morning that Sammy Sounder has expired.
A driver for Willamette Jet Boats discovered the Orca at daylight.
An autopsy revealed blocked arteries and a overcafeinated heart as the cause of death. Contents of the stomach contained several boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts and liver samples confirmed abuse of Starbucks espresso.
Starbucks and Krispy Kreme have declined comment. All three members of the Emerald City Supporters group have been notified. Apparently Sammy swam from the Pungent Sound area to the Columbia and up the Willamette without incident. Several boaters at the Redbull Flugtag last weekend reported a horrific odor near the Burnside bridge...todays finding explains the complaints.
Out of respect for Sammy Sounder there will be a wake at the Bitter End Pub at 6pm and another at the Bullpen Tavern following shortly afterward. A FUNeral procession will proceed to PGE park prior to the 8pm kickoff of the Portland Timbers and the Seattle Sounders. Sadly... Sammy could have stayed home and watched the match on Fox sports channel. The trip was just too much for the dearly departed whale.

The boys desperately need a win to instill confidence. What I saw last night is the same thing that has haunted us most of the season: we are a team lacking a true distributor. Someone with good field-vision and savvy enough to get those quick passes and service to our forwards. Our guys don't make very smart runs off-the-ball and we lack a good first touch. We really need an Etcheverry-like player to spoon-feed them incisive passes. We need someone who can hold the ball in the middle so that we aren't forced to make the one-dimensional attack: a pass to the flanks followed by a lame attempt to cross the ball into the middle(usually preceded by about five or six back-passes and attempts to switch the field with predictable results). It still looks a bit like Bobby-Ball to me. It's great to have so many hard workers on the pitch, but not when they seem to lack ideas. Larry, for instance, seems only capable of back-passes. And if we are depending on him (and his touch of stone) for two of our golden chances on goal, then we are in trouble (although I have to give him props on the header...;)). That being said, one could argue that the referee was inconsistent with his calls. If the elbow to Griffin lacked intent, then so did Scot's late challenge. Scot definitely did go through the player, but it didn't look any more malicious than the elbow that Leonard took to the face.

Sorry. Doesn't work that way. This isn't Timber talk where people intimidate and brow beat people of a different opinion.

Agreed...however, we did not play quality ball last night either. There were glimpses of it...ie Bryan Jordan's run up the middle that led to Olum's missed header. I am just confused as to what happened to the 90 minutes of quality play we had at the beginning of the season:confused:.

Great example of what you see at Timber Talk. Name calling, running people's opinion down and blatant TA chest thumping.

And it looks like BigSoccer is the home of Seattle Trolling. You Win Gold Star!
You won, we lost. Questionable red card, could have easily been a yellow as well. On our goal ruled out of bounds, it was out of bounds. It wasn't a goal. It was sad to see the rivalry temporarily end but it was a great night and a lot of fun.
What more do you want from me. Oh thats right you are just blantantly chest thumping that you won, and trolling. Doesn't seem to much different from talktimbers.

I left having had a great night. Absolutely great. One of the best ever beginning to end. 12,332 people would probably almost all agree. That's quite telling.

I've only been able to get to five games so far this year, but the thing I can't get over is how it seems that Suzuki's skills are wasted in the Timbers' system. He's not Brian McBride... get him his ball at his feet and he can do so much more with it. And there were sooooo many aimlessly thumped long balls with almost no attempt to possess it through the middle and give the defense a break. Pretty frustrating. That said, if I was a Seattle fan, I'd have been pretty annoyed at how the Sounders couldn't put the game away and let the Timbers control the game in the 2nd half.
