I am taking down at the least a group of 20 to RFK for the US v Cuba match.
I am looking for recommendation on hotels.

We were going to take a bus down from Kearny but decided that the best thing to do was to get a night out on the town too.. so we will be staying 1 and 2 nights. Some coming down on firday some coming down on saturday.

let me know what your experiences have been and if you have any hotel recommendations.

For MLS Cup, we stayed in Crystal City. I'm blanking which one exactly, there are a bunch between Rte 1 and the Pentagon City Mall. It was a nice 5 minute walk to the Metro and then a straight shot to RFK.

Although I'm not sure what would be going on as far as official supporter hotels, I can suggest one of two areas:

(1) Rosslyn
You are on the Orange Line (and Blue Line), which connects you to RFK (Stadium-Armory) and the Capital Hill area, where I suspect the pre-night/pre-match bar area will be (or at least where Finn McCool's, the Barra Brava bar is located). In addition, you can walk across Key Bridge to Georgetown if any one in your party wants to shop, eat, drink there. Lastly, you are a few subway stops in the the other direction from some good places in Northern VA (Clarendon, Court House). Court House, one stop from Rosslyn, is where Summer's is located, one of the best soccer bars in the Metro area. There is a Holiday Inn, Hyatt, Residence Inn, Marriott-Key Bridge and perhaps a few other places (which I can't recall) in Rosslyn. The one drawback is that the few blocks of Rosslyn are kind of sterile, mainly a commercial area by weekday. But it is quite convenient to the places I mention above. Plus, there's a bus that runs from Dulles. Hotels tend to be cheaper here than in the District. Holiday Inn I saw at 110/night and Residence Inn at 139/night (both on kayak).

(2) Capital Hill/Eastern Market
I'm not sure what there is as far as hotels, if any, in this area, but if you are in to looking around at the government stuff and museums, this may not be a bad spot. OK bar and restaurant scene, and you are about thirty minutes closer to RFK (via Metro) than you would be in Rosslyn.

*If you do insist on staying in DC near some trendier nightlife (where you can walk out your hotel and it's there immediately), look for DuPont Circle/Georgetown area (DuPont: Red Line) or Downtown/China Town area (Red/Green/Yellow Line). There are tons of hotels in both areas, but tend to be more expensive than other places mentioned.

*The previous poster mentioned Crystal City. Not a bad choice either, tends to be cheaper than DC, just a little further out. Crystal City is similar to Rosslyn in that it is kind of sterile. Pentagon City (one subway stop further north from CC) has some bars/restaurants which you may be able to walk to. These two are right next to Reagan.

*Alexandria and Bethesda are a little quieter, but not bad if you don't mind being far out and want something a little more refined/mature.

Here is a map with some of soccer bars, rosslyn hotels, and rfk.

It was the Doubletree hotel. I think a few of the New England supporters have already booked in again for this trip.

To the previous posters point, yeah Crystal City doesn't have much life (except for the Crystal City Sports Pub which has an incredible brunch) but it's got a glut of hotels and quick access to the airport.

Look forward to drinking and singing with all you in two months time.

Nothing to do with hotels really - but here's a USA Today article on stuff to do in DC for free - http://www.usatoday.com/travel/destinations/2008-08-07-washington-dc-free-attractions_N.htm?csp=34

I stayed at the Marriott near the Metro Center recently (saw the Eagles at Verizon center). The Metro Center hosts the red line, which goes directly to RFK. And there is lots to do nearby, the Spy Museum, China Town, Wax Museum, Fords Theater. There are lots of restaurants and bars near there now, too.

You can get to RFK from Metro Center, but it's via Orange or Blue lines. Red does not connect to RFK.

I come up from NC for the games in DC. We usually stay in Alexandria, but this time we're heading over to Delaware to see family after the game. I'm looking for a good hotel with easy access to Hwy. 50E. My wife and younger two children will be staying at the hotel, so an indoor pool would be nice.

I found a Hampton Inn in Largo and a Courtyard in Landover, but I know nothing about either of these areas. Any suggestions?

This is a terrible time to come to DC for hotels...
The International Monetary Fund is having its Annual meeting which sells out the cities hotels and pushes rates through the roof. Most will have a length of stay restriction and will be charging top rates. You also have to avoid protests. Georgetown and Westend boarded up last year.
Your best bet will be to stay on the orange or blue line in Maryland or Virginia.
Luckily I can walk to the stadium ;)

Yeah, but on the plus side we will all be drunk by the time they really get going and they will not be anywhere near RFK.
If they did make that mistake the riot police would be the least of their worries.:D
There are lots of great bars on Capitol Hill: (all within walking distance of RFK)
Finn MacCools - The official Barra away game bar
The Ugly Mug
The Pour House
The 18th Amendment
The Capitol Lounge

For downtown the options are even wider. For Soccer Friendly:
Lucky Bar
90 minute Cafe
Momos
etc.

For areas of the city:
Adams Morgan is always a good time.
U-Street
and for the heartier among you the up and coming H-Street corridor is pretty cool (The Pug, The Black and Red, The Rock and Roll Hotel, etc.) all on H St NE.

Crystal City has the Metro and is a quick hop by car from DC. Thus, if you miss the last Metro, a cab won't bankrupt you.

That's a pretty good location - not too far from the subway. There's not much in the immediate vicinity, but walk a few blocks and you'll find plenty of eating places, etc.

Any Washington downtown hotels will either be booked solid or $500/night. In the past, we have stayed at the Marriott in Landover, which is right at the train stop--it's a quick trip to stadium or others points of interest in the city--safe, clean, convenient.

FWIW, Screaming Eagles is putting together a pretty awesome party for night-before, day-of, and tailgate ... do what's best for you, but AO & SE are putting this together as well and SE really does a great job at stuff like this. Details to come after the TRI game this Wednesday.

Sorry for the confusion. I don't mean that details are coming on Wednesday. I meant to say, details will come at some point after the TRI match ... but in due time, and not right after the match.

My bad, sorry for any confusion.
