Apologies to anyone who doesn't originate from East London but heard the sad news yesterday that the Ruskin Arms in East Ham is to be pulled down at the end of the year. Claret knows it, Scout and Norway too almost certainly. Joe (RIP) & Tom Lucy ran it years ago and a certain Iron Maiden started out there - of course bassist Steve Harris is a die hard Hammers fan so not totally out of place on this board :)

Yet another East London boozer bites the dust, our old haunts are disappearing fast guys. Wonder what will become of yet more once we move to a new stadium...:(

They'll probably turn it into a mini mosque to appease the local inhabitants.:(

I saw Steve Harris, when he was in Norway a couple of weeks ago. His son has been signed by a Norwegian side.
Shame about the pubs going. The demise of the Spotted Dog really hit me hard. I had my first pint there.

Bloody nora thats terrible. Think the small faces did play there. Maiden definitely
did. Steve Harris went to Cann Hall Road school where i went. My sis was in a year before him, she was in Graham Gooch's class.

Our East London really is no more.

I'd been to London and UP just once two years ago, but I'd done some research on pubs in the area and made it a point to patronize the Ruskin Arms, based on its storied history.

I'm glad to say I've stepped foot in there, ordered a couple of beers, relaxed, enjoyed a televised World Cup match and basically tried to have a genuinely local experience.

I'm also sorry to see it go. I would have definitely made a return trip and would've probably brought some friends along on a future visit.
