I figure we should start a thread to discuss in general the performances of all Argentine athletes.

Obviously Argentina is not a power in the type of sports that help countries accumulate medals, like track and field, swimming etc. I guess our best chance is in the team sports, like soccer, basketball, field hockey. but hopefully we'll have a few surprises.

Here are some of the matches for our tennis players. It looks like a good draw for Nalbadian.

http://www.lanacion.com.ar/nota.asp?nota_id=1037315

'La Legion' has been in a slump, but hopefully Nalbadian or somebody else can bring home a medal.

That is just great! It's a very nice goal, but more importantly, any excuse is good to replay Diego's goal against England.

Possibly. We've won some medals in yatching and such in previous olympic games, in fact the previous gold medal before the ones in football and basketball was in that. However i have no idea about swimming and table tennis.

If heard correctly she actually defeated a japanese woman to get the bronze medal.

A bronze medal on the first day, like in Athens. Male basketball and female hockey starts tomorrow. Good luck to our athletes.

Bad day in sports for Argentina's team games that they excel in.

Argentina mens olympic team lost 79-75 to Lithuania. Bad result, bad start and a bad game.

Argentina mens soccer result, even though they dominated. Several problems remain on defense and finishing on goal. 14 shots on net resulted with only 1 goal.

Non Olympics to add to the hurt. Los Pumas, Argentina Rugby team got slaughtered by South Africa 69-9.

Hopefully these results lead to a bounce back in glory for the sides.

Bah they still won, the defense ain't a problem i think it's the last hit the one that has to improve. Anyway "las leonas" are up 2-1 over USA.

On TyC, though the football match clashed with the ending of basketball and the beginning of hockey, when they started to show it the first half was about to finish. Canal 7 showed it too, but not complete.

Fat Dave off to a flying start. He played some unknown Chinese amateur -these are the sort of matches David usually struggle with- and he did the job quickly.

Sad to see the basketball go down to Lithuania.

Any chance we get to grow a Phelps some time in the near future. Gosh.

No TYC love up here in the North, and I've tried to persuade my cable company to get it. Went through all the red tape; it sucks when you have TV Chile to as a channel here. :(

That's more like it from the Golden Generation. Now it's Croatia and it's a must-win game to help our chances of finishing in the second spot.

Nalbandian is the only tennis guy left, the basketball guys won something like 90-65(maybe less, don't remember the exact score). Alsogaray(err...) had a good start for yatching. Las Leonas tied 2-2, but they still have 3 more matches left on the group, so they still have chances(it's always the same with them they start so-so and improve on the road). Bardach, with no chances of a medal, withdrew, she claims that she was exceeded mentally.

Also worth pointing that in in Athens in Basketball, Argentina lost 2 matches on the first round, with Spain and Italy(who they defeated on the final for the gold medal later). Did i hear right or they said that with this single victory they already have a spot on the next round?
