OK...long story short. My company is thinking about trying to win a contract to do the Marketing for a soccer team here in the States. Sorry but our lawyers won't let me say who.
Now I'm only interested in what you think about USA soccer and how it is marketed. What works and what doesn't.
Give details and examples of both please!

I go almost every home game for the DC United (They average about 10K to 20K people per game) I find that demographics are really important, part of your advertising and marketing campaign should also be aimed at capturing the attention to "Immigrants in the States". Especially the Spanish speaking population since they are the largest minority. Most South and Central Americans LOVE soccer and I think having some in-language advertising is critical. There are several Spanish speaking local media to most mayor markets in the US. A full mix of TV, newspaper and magazines are not out of reach to most since the cost is only a fraction of what regular Anglo advertising cost.
Here are some of other ideas.
- Tail Gate entertaining. (You know food, drinks and music before the game)
-Group and Official Fan Discounts. (Most markets will have organized fan clubs. They are a good portal to sell tickets and help support the team, look into how to partner with these groups by offering special discounts and incentives)
-Meet the Team. Have some of the most popular players sign shirts at the end of the games or have a "Meet the team day". This usually is a good place for PR and gets some spots in the local news. The best part of it... almost Free exposure.
