Final

Blackpool 0
Bristol City 1

Heartbreaker in the final minute of regular time. Positives to take from this game: new players performed very well, particularly Hammill.

A familiar way to start the season for Orange. :(

Hopefully they'll turn it 'round like we have, though.

Daylight Robbery in Blackpool!

Well that is what the headline should read anyway. How on earth we lost that game I don't know. Well I lie, I do know, as Bristol City scored and we didn't. However, we were the better team. We should have scored, and it looked like it was heading for a 0-0 draw until Booker struck in the last minute.

No wonder their fans went wild. Yes we lost and yes it hurts like hell, but in all honesty we played better than we did many times last season, and that with four new players in the starting line-up and ending the game with SIX new players on the pitch, which included one player, Sone Aluko who had only signed today!! Half of them were probably still trying to work out who their fellow team-mates were!

Adam Hammill is awesome, I just hope we can keep him for the full season as he lit up Bloomfield Road this afternoon with his runs, step-overs and all round attitude. And he can also defend. Also Rob Edwards was excellent in defence.

The only downside other than the result was the attendance - 8,244. Very dissapointing and considering Bristol City brought just over 1,500 fans not a good sign for the future. But the club have only themselves to blame for the low turn out by home fans. OK we all expected a price rise in tickets, but we have gone from being one of the cheapest in the Championship to one of the most expensive, and some people simply refuse to pay. Very, very poor from the club.

Anyway, Macclesfield Town away on Tuesday in the League Cup. Macclesfield are a League Two club, then up next it is Norwich City away next Saturday.

Come on You 'Pool!

Some other small things, when David Vaughan came on we improved, and I just wish that Simon Grayson had let Sone Aluko loose earlier than he did. He is small in height the lad, but is yet another skilful player who looks like he could do well for us. Just hope that if he does well we can keep hold of him for a while longer.

So unlike last season when our only really "skilful" player was Wes Hoolahan (who good as he is, is totally one-footed) we now have Hammill who is superb, Vaughan and Saluko!

Blackpool fans, myself included, always used to rave about Hoolahan's "silky skills", but Adam Hammill today, especially considering he is still a teenager, showed why Rafa Benitez thinks he will have a huge future with Liverpool. It was worth going today in all honesty just to see him play. And he gives 100% all the time, tough tackling too. Also in the second half he came down to take a corner in the North West corner, and he was gesturing to the fans to raise the noise levels. Also at the end of the game he was virtually the last Blackpool player to leave the pitch, he made sure he walked round applauding the fans, which is great to see and fans appreciate.

Talking of that, after the match the players got a big round of applause, and a rendition of "Simon Graysons Tangerine Army", even though we had just lost a game heading for a 0-0 draw to a last minute goal.

Too many 80+ minute goals last season, lets turn that round.

Aye, you are absolutely right. It happened all the time last season, we would have a one goal lead and then concede an equaliser in the last 5 or 10 minutes. And then West Brom at home - we were 1-0 up and coasting to victory, then lost the match 3-1 with all their goals coming in the last ten sodding minutes.

And first game this season we do it again and lose the first match. Despite all this though I am still confident we will do ok. In our promotion season from League One we couldn't have had a worse start, losing our first three games, inlcuding two home games, and then like now we had quite a few new players.

They will need time, but we now have easily the best squad we have had for probably 30 years. Just stop conceding goals last minute, it ruins my weekends!

What should we know about Macclesfield Town for the League Cup match on Tuesday?

You should know that if it rains tomorrow night that I will get wet. :D I decided to go to this one away match as normally I can't get to away games. Their stadium, Moss Rose, is a small old fashioned traditional English ground that holds 6,335 with only 2,599 seated. Away fans are housed in a small open-air stand at one end.

They are though in League Two, and got hammered 4-0 on Saturday at Shrewsbury Town who are one of the favourites for promotion this season from League Two. It should be an easy victory. Should be - this is Blackpool we are talking about and we like to make things difficult for ourselves. I've no idea what sort of team Simon Grayson will put out. The League Cup certainly isn't a high priority. He might look to use the same team that started on Saturday or he might bring in some more of the new players, including Zesh Rehman and Alex John-Baptsiste who didn't even make the match-day squad on Saturday.

Kick-off is 7.45pm. My prediction - err, 1-1 at full time and after extra time and we just scrape through in the penalty shoot out!!
