What players could have layed for either United States or Canada, that chose one or the other.

I know of:
Joe Cannon
Ugo Ihemelu?
Landon Donovan

Are there any others because their must be a few more?

Yes, Landon's dad is Canadian and still has family living in Canada.

I didn't know Joe Cannon was eligible. What's his connection to Canada?

If this is true he shoulda played for them. With the Glut of US keepers he didnt have a chance. He probably would have had beat out Onstad.

Either way he never would of played in a WC

They can have Imelahu

His father is Canadian (according to Wikipedia).

Indeed. And he's seven years younger than Pat also.

Joe Cannon is only 32-33, and Canada has a good chance to finish 3rd in CONCACAF if they can just get through their semifinal group of death. If Cannon was once indeed eligible for Canada and had gone that route, I'd like his chances for 2010.

The amazing thing to think of is what the Canadian midfield might have been right now - Hargreaves, Donovan, DeGuzman and DeGuzman.

Wast Cannon capped by the US? If not Canada needs to start recruiting him. Even if Canada qualifies not sure Id want Onstad in goal at his age.

How about Will Johnson? Did he ever become a US citizen?

The other was vs Honduras apparently. From his MLSnet profile (http://sjearthquakes.mlsnet.com/players/bio.jsp?team=t110&player=cannon_j&playerId=can433705&statType=current):

International

Has appeared in two games for the U.S. Men's National Team and has yet to concede a goal in two halves of play … Made his National Team debut on 6/8/2003 against New Zealand in Richmond, Va., replacing Marcus Hahnemann at halftime of a 2-1 U.S. win … Returned to the National Team on 3/19/2005, making his first career start against Honduras in Albuquerque, N.M. before being replaced by Kevin Hartman … Has been a part of a number of National Team camps since his last cap, but has not made an appearance.

Lots of countries can talk about lost players.

Imagine us with Rossi and Castillo.

We could also add Subotic to that list but I think he is going to end up being ours.

Imagine us in five years if our backline is not

Spector-Hines-Subotic-Castillo

And throw in Rossi up top for good measure.

You'd either play a 4-5-1 with DeRo in the midfield and Rob Friend up top or a 4-4-2 with Friend and DeRo or DeGuzman up top. Ideal non-defection lineup would be:

------------Friend

Donovan----DeRo------JDG2

-------JDG1-------Hargreaves

Kllukowski-Hutchinson-Serioux--Stalteri/Ihemelu

--------Onstad/Fernandes

or:

------------Friend

----------DeRo

Donovan-----------------JDG2

--------------0JDG1

------------Hargreaves

Kllukowski-Hutchinson-Serioux--Stalteri/Ihemelu

--------Onstad/Fernandes

Well...Donovan didn't defect (unless you are referring to papa Donovan), but I know what you mean :)
