Ljundberg has picked up his P45 so it seems.

Seriously, what would be the point in paying him off if you're still paying 3/4 of his wages? He's not that bad.

I totally agree with you mate, and is it AC who's disappointed with him? or does Nani really have the final say in club signings & departures.

The first thing I always do with such articles (in the paper, not Ljungberg ) is take the figures quoted with a pinch of salt. How would the Mail know what these figures are? The Mail don't exactly have a good track record for getting their facts right or for treating West Ham well. Why would we spend £6m to save £8.84m? Our owners are not that stupid. I would suggest that the amount is actually quite a bit less that £6m.

After that put aside also the usual amount of sensationalising that papers do and the story that remains is hardly a surprise. In fact when Green spoke out about his disappointment he mentioned a nameless player who was offered about £3m to leave. We knew this would be Ljungberg.

He was signed during a phase which saw Eggy as our front man making big, expensive signings in an attempt to try and raise the clubs profile. Round about the same time that the Darren Bent deal fell through.

Now we are looking to provide a solid future for the club by procuring young talent which we can nurture over the years, enhanced medical facilities and recruiting Nani as a scout for foreign talent. Our agenda has completely changed and players who break the wage structure no longer belong at the club.

I want some of what you're on because the last time we had one senior fit striker, we got relegated.

This artciel fails somewhat in refuting the claims:

According to the Guardian today, West Ham have plans for Freddie and Curbs has denied that we are getting rid of him
Q. Do you believe the Mail, or the Guardian? (Please remember that the Mail is banned from Upton Park and are running a hate campaign against us.)

That would be The Mail then.

I have heard recently that The Mail has actually correctly predicted a few things involving West Ham. It's just a shame that they think this gives them the right to print any old rubbish as well. Typical press I suppose.

...and then there were two. Right wingers that is. Err...and one of those is out until November. The other has only played a handful of matches since returning from his own achilles problem. Thank God we have Behrami who plays everywhere.

Surely The Mail is a source of knowledge about right wingers?

Little bit of politics there, ladies and gentlemen, my names Ben Elton - Good Night.

The Daily Mail does seem to have a vendetta against us but that doesn't mean that they're not right about things, they just exaggerate them like Lucas Neill's wages and the size of Ljungberg's payoff.

Behrami was everywhere at Ipswich the other night, however he looked completely lost..
Chased around a lot but his passing was poor and every attempt to cross the ball failed. Early days yes, but I would expect a lot more for someone costing a lot of cash. But this seems to be the fashion, buying average players for a lot of money which blocks the young home grown talent from playing first team games, which, we then end up giving away to our rivals. I have to admit to asking does AC know what he is doing in the transfer market. We all could have advised that players like Dyer Bellamy and Freddie Ljunberg had terrible sickness records at their last clubs, I know a leg break is something that could happen to anyone but at Newcastle Dyer hardly played for 2 years with so called shin splints and hamstring probs, yet when his contract was up for renewal he put in around 10 decent games, re signed, and then went on the sick... its not hard to work out and I dont get paid shed loads by WHU on a weekly basis. Ipswich had a really talented winger on show, Danny Haynes, very quick, direct. can really whip the crosses in and scores goals, wigan are looking at him for 3 million. I hope AC noticed him too..

6m according to just about everyone. Can't really understand the reasoning behind letting him go, thought he could do a job for us and he was certainly starting to come good towards the end of last season.

Another piece of unwelcome news yesterday is that Ben Thatcher's on trial with us at the moment, marvellous, yet another player with a dreadful reputation

I dunno about the rest of you but what with these two stories, injuries yet again to key players and Deano being linked to Spuds/Villa/Everton etc, the alarm bells are starting to ring already

It's really amazing; we get rid of Freddie L, and almost at the same time Bellamy gets injured again. We should re-sign Ljungberg on a game by game basis, because he could fill in for Bellamy!
There's no question that he was playing very well for us at the end of last season, and for Sweden in the Euro 2008 games. Now we have neither of them for the start of the season, and we all know that a good start is very important in this league. I'll be afraid to see what might happen during the Villareal game; let's hope no more damned injuries!

...and immediately after receiving 6 m from us heading to Italy as a free agent. Clever man.
