hey soccer season is starting for me so of course i have to get injured. This time its my knee. I went to the doctor last week and he told me that i sprained my mcl. Ive been icing it and the front of my knee is feeling much better, but now i have a lot of pain in the back of my knee. It only hurts when i try to fully straighten it then i get a pain that feels like its stretching. does anyone know what the cause of this could be? Thanks in advance

It could be scar tissue. Scar tissue tends to build up when you keep your leg in the same position for an extended period of time. If you had it in a cast or brace for too long this could be your problem. If you were limping on it for an extended period of time or kept it bent a certain way this could produce the same outcome. If it is scar tissue it can't hurt you, it will simply be painful. Whenever I have scar tissue build ups in my ankle or knee it just means it is time to go see the trainer and they can work it out for you. However having scar tissue broken up is one of the most painful things I have experienced but very necessary.

before you push it, see a trainer or doctor first. But whatever you do, DONT PUSH THROUGH THE PAIN. i got a knee injury in january, and kept trying to push through it, or i wouldnt give it enough time to fully heal, and i constantly reinjured it, and now, i wont be able to play in my freshmen year of college just bc of a simple injury i pushed through 8 months ago.

my best advice to you would be to wait a week to get back in the swing of things after YOU feel youre good to play, bc if youre like me your mind and competitive spirit will convince you its healed when its not.

ice does wonders.... keep icing it!
and see the doc again- and look into or ask about getting an MRI

I tore my ACL last year and decided to wait until after I move. I've been playing on it for 2 seasons but I'm 30 and trying to make the smart moves

Hey thanks for the advice, i was icing it and letting it rest until this week. I just started practicing on it again. Bad Idea, it felt healed and i was able to do almost everything i could do pre injury (except kick the ball hard with the instep) but during the practice the knee bent out again and popped a few times. Hurt pretty bad, but i was able to get back up and walk off the field. The wierd thing is that the outside of my knee and the right under the knee cap hurts instead of the inside this time and the back of my knee into the calf hurts to the touch and when i walk. Any ideas of what damage i did this time?

Right outside of the knee and under the knee cap could be chondromalacia, or patellar femoral syndrome. Simply put, this is when youre knee cap is not aligned right, and it grinds against the leg bone, and this is what i have and have had since january, bc i didnt rest it and take care of it properly. I would say to see another doctor and have him diagnose you, because im not sure what the back of youre knee could be, it seems to me like a whole nother problem as compared to the inside of youre knee pain. But, if it is patellar femoral, the treatment is physical therapy, and the doctor will write yoyu a prescription if he feels you need it.
The people at therapy knew what they were talking about way more than the doctor did, and they were the ones who actually figured out what ym problem was. They had me at about 90%, then i went back to playing and running and i didnt ease into it, i pushed myself way too hard into it, and within a month it was back to square one. The therapy was a month long too, and now i know thedexercises to do to heal it, so i do it on my own at home, and i am getting closer to 100% again.
But I'd say go back to a doctor, and let him tell you what's wrong.
