I think we have now officially joined the list of "Highly Dysfunctional Teams Which Were Supposed to Constitute the Bundesliga's Elite" (other members: Bremen, Schalke, Stuttgart).
Too bad Thiago Neves seems more likely than not to fail in Hamburg as of now. Together with Marcell Jansen, that makes two players I was expecting to help us, while with regards to Silva and especially Petric I wasn't nearly as sure...

You guys got NEC Nijmegen in the next round of the UEFA Cup.
As long as you take them seriously, you guys should kick some more ass.......

The Dutch eliminated Spartak Moscow, so they surely can play some decent soccer. Nevertheless, HSV should be the clear favourites!
After a pretty easy group (with Zilina and Prague), they got some drawing luck once again.

I hope Poldi can replace Olic. If Poldi moves to a bigger club than us he'll risk the same fate as in Bayern!

Daily Star reports that Man City are offering 15 million pounds for Nigel de Jong.
Chump change really...

De Jong is great, but just in case Thiago Neves continues to look like he won't ever be able to carry the team in offensive midfield together with Trochowski I think we need to get some cash to buy a solid offensive midfielder. Preferably in summer, though. But we played well defensively without de Jong thanks to Silva (who might be needed at some point to replace Reinhardt, but probably not next season).

"Chump Change" for Man City, but far more than the player is actually worth........
EDIT: I think the price is actually 15M Euros, not Pounds. But since the two currencies are pretty much on equal footing these days, I guess that doesn't matter anyhow. :D

It looks like HSV is signing Marcel Ndjeng. Pretty surprising in my eyes, since he was poor during his last 12 months in Gladbach (after a strong Vorrunde in the 2nd league last season)...

According to various good sources, HSV has accepted ManCity's 20.5m Euros offer, de Jong still has to agree but has previously expressed interest.
Good deal, good luck to Nigel de Jong, and after the Kompany/de Jong deals I wouldn't mind if we'd remain a feeder club for ManCity in the future:D
de Jong could have left for 2m Euros in summer 2009, he was about to agree an extension with HSV with a buy-out clause of 13m Euros, though.

That's some great business you did there, it has to be said. Good player, but totally overpriced, typical 'Manchester City premium', not that the sheikhs care, mind you...
A lot of money to strengthen your team with.

Apparently they want to buy three players, a defender, a defensive midfielder and a striker.
I probably would have said let's get a solid offensive midfielder now to challenge for a Champions League spot (let Trochowski and Thiago Neves compete against each other).

lol thats a great deal for HSV. Unbelievable how many players they have been selling for such huge sums in the last years! (vdv, boularouz, kompany...)
Should be doable to replace DeJong and get another good player for 20 million...
I honestly wonder when that big old bubble they are building up over there in england finally explodes tough...

I agree Uwe. This just goes to show that money still can't buy brains........

It's not like this is totally crazy. His price tag in summer would be 13m, paying a few million extra during the winter is quite normal (plus if you're not a Champions League club you'll have to pay extra too). It's not that easy to find replacement players in the remaining two weeks after all. I cannot say 19.5m thrills me, it's a rather good deal (about 4m above what I'd say is the market rate), but you can easily end up with a replacement player or two who somehow don't perform in Hamburg.

Perhaps we should bring either Marko Marin or Lars Bender to Hamburg in summer.
