The Bundesliga is spending more money than last season this year. Of course, that's partly because Bayern is in a bit of a spending spree after being rather silent last year, but Hamburg, Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim invested quite a lot, too, and Stuttgart has one or 2 big transfers yet to complete. The Serie A is also in a small spending spree, though most of the big transfers were within the league.
On the other hand, the EPL as a whole is awfully hesitant to invest money this season, despite ManCity. Not counting Real Madrid, the Spanish clubs were also unusually quiet so far. And those 2 leagues were the the biggest spenders in recent years, so I'd say Hoeness is right, there's less money in the market.
@Berg: I doubt you could have bought him a year ago for 8 mio, not after the Euro he played. Not that a German club would have payed 10-12 mio for him, I think most likely he would have gone to the EPL or maybe Spain for 12 mio or more. I mean, the player of the tournament 2007 was Drenthe, he went from the Eredivisie to Real for 14 mio. The player of the tournament 2006 was Huntelaar, he stayed with his club for another 18 months before he transferred for 20 mio, 2004 it was Gilardino who transferred in 2005 for 24 mio. Of course, Berg played for a relatively small club and has yet to play Europa League, let alone Champions League, but Drenthe didn't have more experience than him.

Still, maybe Hamburg's best transfer this year will be the one of Jerome Boateng from right-back to the centre:cool:

Not normally.
And with Rozehnal (sp?) now on his way to Hamburg, he will face additional competition in defence.

I was only able to watch the first 30min of today's cup match, and I was quite shocked by how immature Labbadia's tactical handwriting looked. The defensive block was obviously disorganised and our players simply can't deliver those constant one-touch passes which he is asking from them.
Is Labbadia Doll with make-up?

I think Labbadia has a reputation built by a shitload of media hype that has almost everyone fooled into thinking he's some great coach already.
He might become one, but he's not as good as they make him out to be yet.
As far as the Doll comparison, see this post (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=17898407&postcount=451) I wrote back on June 8th. :D

I vaguely seemed to remember you had posted something like that, but I couldn't appreciate it fully before seeing Labbadia's HSV in action last night...
It worries me slightly given that the club has taken on more risk than usual with this year's transfers.

I don't know, the defense doesn't look worse than under Jol. At least the whole team has a system now, which is like the first time since Pagelsdorf in 1999/2000, not counting Stevens' "we play with 8 defensive players so no one can get through "system" ".
The problem against Düsseldorf were mostly counter-attacks, which had a lot to do with the defensive midfield not doing their job properly and Demel being completely out of position all the time. Tesche simply isn't Jarolim, add a bad day from Ze Roberto and you had a big hole in midfield. Tavares looked even worse against Randers. May have to try Rincon in that position, instead of wasting him on RB.
Whenever Ze Roberto and Jarolim have played together, the defense was not a problem.
