Yea, I could not believe it when I first read it. And on top of that, the immediacy with which they picked and appointed him, almost as if they were worried about missing out on a great steal.
Watch him make Hamburg Meiser! LOL
Not until they get some central defensive help and some help for Petric and Guerrero up front.......
But like you said, I can't believe HSV went for this guy as if they would have been missing out on the next big thing.
This guy Labbadia so far has been all media hype. Sure, he has the potential to be a very good coach, but so did Thomas Doll.....
I guess some don't realize that potential can go unrealized just as easily, or even easier, than it is realized.

Of HSV's three candidates to become coach, Schaaf, Labbadia, and Mirko Slomka, Labbadia was my least favorite. After this seasons end of the year implosion, we should hopefully finish in the top three next year.

Ah, the yearly end-of-the-year implosion.

Something Labbadia has mastered at Greuther Fuerth and Leverkusen...... :o

Though to be fair, Leverkusen always had the end-of-the-year implosion, even before Labbadia was hired ;)
If Leverkusen ever managed to play a whole season as well as they usually do in the first half of the season, the rest of the league would be toast ;)
What really gets on my nerves is this panic that is currently going around in Hamburg. Of the important players only Olic has left, and there are 16 million - at the minimum - available for new players, but oh no, we are lucky if we aren't going to be relegated
This team was good enough to challenge for three titles for most of the season. Yes, we need a good replacement for Olic, and getting better players nevers hurts, but this team is far from being bad.

You're going to find out that a competent coach is more important than you think......

Ah, the yearly end-of-the-year implosion.
Every team that is enjoying a deep run in both the domestic cup and that bloody Uefa cup gets tired towards the end of the year. I was genuinely surprised by how late the team imploded this year, and I credit Jol for it.
HSV boss Hoffmann and sports director Beiersdorfer are quarreling at the moment. I agree with Hoffmann's intention to get rid of Beiersdorfer whose transfer record has been erratic. Unlike Hoffmann's record in financial affairs, which is simply outstanding. Best business operator in the league IMO. Problem is, Beiersdorfer is the nice guy.

Ze Roberto to Hamburg

Good signing for HSV. They are going to have some good attacking mids this year in Trochowski, Ptroipa, and now Ze.

Just confirmed: you just signed Twente left winger Eljero Elia. Dutch league talent of the year and Dutch national team player. Transfer fee 10 million.

Great signing for HSV, hopefully he does well and they hold on to him for a while before the hungry wolves come crawling at the door.

Congratulations. I hate to see him go but at least he's not ending up at Ajax. I hope he does well for you.

Wow, as I've said earlier HSV management has got to be one of the best in the BL. They consistently sign great talent. But that doesn't mean they haven't been stupid once in a while, with the Jol and Labbadia business.

I wished that Stuttgart had tried to sign Elia. He would have been exactly the kind of guy we need.
BTW, since I'm following the news regarding Huntelaar, I ran across this site:

My Spanish is a little rusty (i.e. nonexistent), however, it would seem as if Real is talking to Hamburg regarding a return of van der Vaart. That would be a good move as well.

According to the Swedish press, Berg WILL NOT join Hamburg. Apparently, the HSV wasn't willing to pay the €12m.

Ouch, shame.
I don't think he would be worth 12 million realistically but in this inflated market with his potential it could have been a sound investment. Then again, he may turn out to be a big flop if he moves to any other big club. Would have been wise to invest in another #9 though.

If you had asked me last year, I would have said that €12m would be WAY too much. In this inflated market however, I think they won't get any cheaper. To be honest, I can't think of any striker who would be better for the same kind of money...

You're right, if I was in charge I would spend the money, could pay off big time in the long run but HSV is obviously content letting this deal go.

I don't know if Hamburg is content letting this deal go. I think that they really don't have the money. Don't forget that they just signed Elia. He was expensive enough already and I think that it was a great signing.
There are not many teams in Germany that can afford €20m+ on transfer fees alone.
Although I'd love to see someone like Berg in the Bundesliga. Should Huntelaar choose not to go to Stuttgart, I hope that we sign Berg instead, now that Hamburg is out of the picture...
