Very good game. Quite entertaining. Fantastic hard work from the strikers. Pressing from them .....very hoffenheim-like.....

Congrats on the Tabellenführung, well deserved. Good match today, and two great goals by Jansen who was on fire. Without the defensive responsibilities of a fullback, he can finally show his strenghts on his ideal position, the LM. In this form, definitely an alternative for the national team (for the left midfield).
He can be the Odonkor of Germany in 2010, but that Jansen actually has a brain to us while he plays.

In the long run I don't want to see Jansen as a midfielder with his style of play. If he has a brain to use, he should focus it on improving his defensive awareness so as to become the great left-back he was once destined to become.

I agree. I don't think he offers enough offensively to be a midfielder.

Really. For a fullback yes, for a midfielder, no. Not yet anyways. He has to decide what position he wants to stick with.

That's why he scored 2 goals tonight just a few km's away from his hometown...:p
Congrats to Marcell on this great performance (I hope he won't dare repeating that in 2 weeks) and to HSV on leading the table.

I think that his manager has to decide that.

It is just one game though, lets see how he fares the rest of the season in that position.
I think that his manager has to decide that.
Of course but its also up to him and whether it is in his capabilities to do so.

Actually, it's the other way around. He was playing in the LM for Gladbach when he caught the attention of Bayern, who paid more than €10m for him. That's his original position, and he sure as hell has a lot to offer going forward.
The reason he was made a LB was that he is naturally left footed, and the lack of quality left-footed German fullbacks back then. The idea was to play Lahm (stronger right foot) on the right and him on the left, both for Bayern and the national team - it didn't work out.
Play the players on their best positions, and don't try to 'force' them into positions where they can't show their real strenghts (a shame that it takes a Dutchman to see this...). Jansen will never be a world beater when it comes to defending, but his dynamic, physical style of play can be very useful on the wing positions in the midfield, when he has less defensive responsibilities and can keep the flank of the opposition busy. Kuyt, albeit a different player, does the same for Liverpool, for example.

I'd say he played both positions (LB and LM) in Gladbach (varied from game to game).

True, but his best matches, as far as I can remember at least, were on the LM position.

Well, I remember just a few games when he did pretty well on the LB position, too...;)

Wherever Albert Streit moves to, he always seems to be involved in trouble, although this time Jerome Boateng is probably more to blame.

Just look at the guy, wouldn't you slap him too if you saw him?

I'd slap him for being a former Schalke and now HSV player alone. He'd just need to move to Bayern now to make his cv 'complete'... ;)
