Well that's a surprise.
Craig seems to have done a hamstring at Ipswich last night, as the Hammers ran out 5-3 winners over an Ipswich side.
One good thing to come out of the game was Ashtons hat trick. Bellamy got the second goal, before pulling up and Noble scored a 25 yard stunner.
I worry a bit about the defence. Very solid last year, but leaking goals like a seive at the moment.
Not sure how long Bellamy will be out, but we haven'started the season yet and both Dyer and Bellamy are injured.......AGAIN.

Surprise surprise. And people keep saying with our strongest squad we could get into Europe.

Went to the game at Ipswich last night. Plus points were Ashtons goals although for some reason he does not seem to be able to get airbourne for headers ( even though he looks fit and lean) Anton looked very lean too.. Scotty P looked very good even if he was holding back the tackles for a couple of weeks..

The Bad points were the defence.. really shakey.. Green looked sharp but was not happy with those in front of him.

Still think we need another top line striker with pace.. Darren Bent? anyone..

What really worries me is that in every match the opposition have scored within a minute or two of us scoring. Lack of concentration methinks

This is a real blow; Bellamy is a matchwinner, and without him I think we're very ordinary. As for the defence, we do seem to have strengthened the left and right back positions, but not the central defenders. If the existing bunch aren't improved over last year, I'm afraid we're in for trouble. We cannot concede as many critical goals as we did without serious consequences! I think AC should have made a real effort to get a superior central defender. I hope Green can repeat his goalkeeping feats, but he seems to be uncomfortable at Upton Park now.
I'm getting nervous already!!!!!

Mounting injuries AND a shaky defens(c)e?

Sounds like the worst possible combination of scenarios that plagued the '06 and '07 seasons.

*gulp*

http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif Well done, Freddie!
Freddie Ljungberg played a full 90 minutes today, and was outstanding for Sweden; I have visions of Ljungberg, Dyer, Parker, Bellamy and Ashton all fit and together, and everyone should watch out! If AC shores up the central defence to a higher standard, I really think this could be one hell of a season!

I think I'm a prophet! Ljungberg and Dyer haven't played at all, and Bellamy's now out. And we still haven't shored up the central defence! Bowyer's only played in the reserve team, as has Matty Etherington, and I don't think Upson or McCartney have played yet, have they?
It'll be interesting to see who starts against Villareal; I assume AC will try a first team combination at least for the first half. Let's hope there are no more pulled muscles, hamstrings etc, etc.
