Too bad Depor didn't get the penalty for the obvious hand ball, I can't believe the referee didn't see it...it happened right in front of him.

After seeing the 3 Spanish teams play though, I wouldn't be surprised if Madrid would be the only one to go to the 2nd round. Meh, it's only the first week.

did you get to see Sociedad? I understood that they played well, although I didn't get to see the game.

by the way, El Moro scores and, at least according to Soccernet, provides an assist in Monaco's defeat of PSV. Bravo Moro! Glad to see a smile on his face.

I saw the highlights so can't really say if they played great or not the entire match, but they showed only 1 shot on goal by Real in the first half and said that was pretty much it. The chances in the 2nd half weren't that great either or many, and they needed the penalty to eventually bring that 1-0 on the score board, and this against the 'on paper' weakest side in the group.

They didn't give away any chances though (at least ones they showed over here) so that's a good thing I guess.

Well, I saw five matches.

Inter's 3-0 win over Arsenal had to be the least impressive 3-0 win I have ever seen. I didn't see the final stats, but I know that Arsenal was leading in shots and corners midway through the second half and I wouldn't be surprised if they had a possession edge. They simply couldn't finish. If they could have finished, they could easily have scored 5-6 goals.

Real at times looked awesome with their passing and running through the Marseille defense. At other times, they looked lethargic. Still, Marseille is not a bad side and I think they will make a run at making it to the knockout phase. Real is Real. They will be a presence.

Man United scored 5 goals but their opposition was arguably the weakest of the teams in the Champions League.

Chelsea clearly has incredible individual talent. If they can work better together as a team, they will be a force to be reckoned with. As it is, they were lucky to get out of Prague with three points.

Celtic was unlucky. They should have gotten a draw out of Munich. That second Munich was such a fluke. However, as my mother always said, sometimes it is better to be lucky than good and Munich was definately the lucky side on Wednesday. Still, Celtic gave a good account of themselves and we may hear from them again into the new year.

All in all, I really enjoyed matchday one (except the Chelsea-PRague match) and I am looking forward to the UEFA Cup matches next week.

Disclaimer: Five of my favorite sides are in this tournament: Arsenal, Inter, PSV, Marseille and Celtic.
