Just wondering what the latest story is on South Africa being able to host the WC in 2010, last I heard it was in trouble.
I guess this is soccer related , but I wanted to post it here in case any of you knew any new developments and to be honest I wanted to stay on the Argentina board because it is weird "out" there.:D

Well yeah it looks like they SA ,wont be ready in time for the Con-Fed Cup ! If that fails it's going to be a disaster before it even gets started. I guess much of the blame is on the Port Elizabeth venue , where it's been dropped from the Con-Fed tourney.

and despite all these brand new multi-billion Rand sports complexes the immediate surroundings are shanty-towns and ghettos ..

Ok so where are the fans supposed to stay? What is the safety going to be like? Where are the bars and resteraunts? What about the transportation? I mean come on it is less than two years away, maybe FIFA should just give it to USA or Mexico and be done with it and give the new hosts some time to prepare.

Honestly i don't like it talk about it in the "international" discussion, because to me it seems that there're many opportunists who are hoping it fails so their country may have a chance(even though FIFA didn't say who were the 3 possible replacements) to host the thing. If the Confederations Cup isn't hosted by South Africa, i don't think it'll mean that the World Cup will be a diaster.

The Con-Fed Cup is a test 1 year prior to the World Cup to see if the host nation can deal w/ large numbers of people in different venues of the country . If the transit to and from hotels, airports, stadium ,bus , train stations are questionable here is were they can be addressed... The Con-Fed would be absolutely vital to SA , a country that hasn't hosted any major tournament , and who's infrastructure would be deemed questionable .... If this cannot be addressed in time for the world cup then Yes it is a recipe for disaster! You have thousands of money-laden tourists or merchants waiting to get mugged/assaulted etc. etc.

I don't know what to think. Remember that before the World Cup in Germany they were saying that the stadiums were deathtraps. However i admit that it is probably true that South Africa may be more insecure than Europe(insecurity exists everywhere though).

Did South Africa not host a Rugby event not to long ago?? Of course the WC is much bigger, but it really does not look good when some stadia are not even 30% completed.
