You mean the 0:2 scene? Well...
Schalke could face a real disaster in Enschede if they play like tonight! And of course they'll probably get eliminated from UEFA Cup in the case of a defeat against Rutten's former club...

Can anyone explain the reason behind Schalke fans waving Euro bills in the ManCity match? I know they were frustrated but I found it quite interesting and would like to know what it symbolizes.

They aren't happy with the transfer policy. Expensive guys like Engelaar, Rakitic, Streit, Lövenkrands etc. turned out to be huge flops.

Lovenkrands was a few years ago, was a free transfer, and he was pretty good at least for one year so I doubt it would be him.
Engelaar and Streit are enough though. I'd put Sanchez in there too, although he has never had a real chance to start. Engelaar will probably go down as the biggest flop of this year's Bundesliga transfer period, he is poo!

Phew, at least one transfer success/flop I was right about this season:o

I did not expect Engelaar to do that well either, but I also didn't expect him to be the worst player in the Bundesliga (at least according to kicker). I actually agree with kicker with this one, although to be fair, I've only watched Schalke 4 times this year.
*edit* after this weeks rankings he is not the worst, but still one of the worst

I'm not saying that Engelaar is on form, but I regularly watch the Bundesliga on German television and to claim that Engelaar is one of the worst players in the Bundesliga is on a par with Bild's anti-Holland ramblings prior to any international football tournament. Meanwhile on the same German television all the serious media seem to be concentrating on is Kuranyi losing his ability to score. This strangely doesnt get a mention even in this thread. I guess its easier for Germans an German football lovers to slag off the Dutch newcomer.
Anyway to the match going Schalke fans, check my sig re: Wednesday. Also as I told you in the summer, Twente were rubbish in the first couple of months under Rutten's leadership. He needs a bit of time. Once he gets his team going, they'll be brilliant, mark my words.

Johan, the Kuranyi criticism for the most part is a joke. We all know the media will pick one slight problem and blow it completely out of proportion, then you have the idiot Schalke fans that boo him because no else in the team can score.
Ohh yes, no one in the team is a real goal scoring danger, or enough to score 15+ goals per season. Kyranyi hit 20 last season and will hit at least 15 this season as well, but he gets criticism because the media chose him to be their pet b#tch.

How I told you, expectations at Schalke are very high (they are damned to reach the CL this season - especially, since they failed to qualify in summer) and the board & fans are pretty unpatient ... so I doubt he'll get much time.
I almost couldn't believe what I've read today.

But well, you really never know what happens in Gelsenkirchen...
Maybe you'll decide about his fate these days :-)

Rutten has already rubbished those rumours, adding that the Dutch media at least bother to double check rumours!
We're ready for the game. Thousands of ticketless Schalke fans are coming to Enschede apparently! Tickets are going for over a thousand Euros on eBay. It'll be a great game between two clubs that greatly respect each other (but not tomorrow night!), I can't wait.

That's a very lame thing to write when you're out to defend a former hero of your club.

Wielaert clearly in an offside position when the initial shot came in.

The linesman & referee obviously need glasses. Incredible how they didn't see that!
Well, the defeat was pretty unlucky (from what I saw in the match summary on ARD), as Schalke had more and the better chances ... but it's the result that counts in the end! If Santander or/and Paris manage to win their home games against the qualified teams from Manchester & Enschede, you're definitely out.
Tough times for Rutten & Müller...

I was at last night's game and it's pretty lame to blame Engelaar for Schalke's form - along with Ernst and that defender of yours with the Dutch soundng last name he was your best man on the pitch, he completely dictated play. What I also noticed was the behaviour of Schalke players when they're subbed; they don't even shake hands with the new player coming on so something's wrong. Farfan and Kuranyi were awful.
Full respect to Schalke fans though, they were brilliant and underscore the friendship that exists between the two clubs.

True but the ref was terrible overall. How Rafina managed to stay on is a mystery (he elbowed our winger TWICE!)

When you fired Slomka, the first coach to reach the CL 1/4 finals with Schalke, and replaced him with Rutten, a "coach of international standing" (supposedly - who knew him outside of Holland?), I already thought that it was a stupid idea.
After this horrendous first half, especially internationally (Schalke didn't qualify for the CL, and finished last in their UEFA Cup group), it looks even more stupid. Your board, not just Müller, has an egg on their face now.
Or like we say in the north, "der Fisch stinkt vom Kopfe her" - just sack all of them. It's ridiculous how much potential is wasted in Gelsenkirchen, knowing about your financial muscle.

Totally agree with Hacke, to fire Slomka was downright ignorant and you deserve what you're currently getting and have nothing but your own stupidity to blame. Pathetic how this team is playing considering the potential and the class of players they have.
Wait until winter/summer transfer season and sign another DM or defender as you don't already have enough of them though.

@ Hackespitze 123
As much as I like Slomka, I have to admit that Fred Rutten is a very good manager. Obviously he needs some time to form his team ... however, the question is whether he'll get this patience in a club with such high ambitions.
If they don't reach spot 3 this season, there'll be a lot of trouble at Schalke ... that's for sure!
