I thought a thread could be open on this topic. The main reason why I got DishNetwork, cause I found their service a bit more footie friendly. Now this fiasco:eek::rolleyes: On GolTV's homepage, there is an apology & there is a statement that discussions are continuing. Everyone who has Dish keep your fingers crossed

As I wrote on another thread I think we need to inundate GolTV with e-mails urging them to continue negotiating. I don't think hitting Dish with e-mails will help much as I've tried with them on other issues without much luck.

I just emailed both parties. If actions like this keep up, I am sure both sides will see they are hurting the viewers & this is not a good thing. Especially since we are paying their bills. We are all related & involved in this situation.

I gave "Cheap Charlie" the red card and switched from DISH to DirecTV many years ago so that I don't have to deal with these "Cheap Charlie" ego episodes periodically.
I now take DirecTV's Choice Xtra (with no locals because I can get the locals with a table-top antenna), the Sports Pack, and Setanta (for 10 months a year during EPL season).
The only "soccer-centric" channel that I don't get is ESPN Deportes (the Spanish add-on package is not worth another $20 a month in my opinion.) Not that great a loss since some of the live UEFA CL games on ESPN Deportes are simulcast on ESPN360.com.

I am not sure why the first poster got Dish because he thought it had more football. Directv has shown more of a willingness to upgrade and maintain their sports packages.

GolTV is an advertising supported channel, not a subscription supported channel like Setanta.
When GolTV raises their rates, Dish Network gets no advantage from that. They just pay more for the same thing. When Setanta raises their rates, Dish Network (and DirecTV) gets a percentage.
GolTV should concentrate on keeping Dish's 12 million potential viewers that they can tout to their advertisers.
A good example is when the price of gasoline goes up $1 per gallon, someone gets our extra $1 and we still just get the same gallon of gasoline. No benefit to us. So, we use less gasoline.
GolTV is raising its rates to Dish Network, and Dish is just getting the same GolTV - no benefit to Dish. So, they are "using less GolTV"...
"Cheap Charlie" has saved Dish Network customers and DirecTV customers lots of money, by opposing greedy price increases by channels. They are greedy, because they have advertising too.
PS Olympics Soccer Channel in HD is uplinked to Dish Network and goes live on Wednesday morning. All day Olympics Soccer in HD. Does DirecTV have that ?? I hope so - for you guys...

It's on 61.5 and 129, like most of the HD. When Dish HD is installed, they install a dish for one of those two slots.
367(98) - OLMPS [MPEG4 HD] added to EchoStar3 61.5W TP 16 ConUS beam (NA)
367(98) - OLMPS [MPEG4 HD] added to EchoStar5 129W TP 13 ConUS beam (NA)
PS and there is an Olympic Basketball Channel in HD as well...

Easy, when I first got my dish, FSW was in my package for no additional costs. Then you add all of the Espanol channels, I had a lot. That was back in 2k1. Since then I did get GolTV, so I have two soccer channels for the package I got. It was the top 150 & now it's like Top 250.

The fact that GolTV's website puts up a link to show their current distribution partners (so you can leave Dish Network) is a sign that "continuing" talks are pretty much done and over with, if there were any in the first place.

every channel increases their rates when they start negotiating a new contract. It's not like they all of a sudden said "hey dish, you pay us more now." Their contract was up. It was time to renegotiate a new one. Dish Network is famous for dropping channels during these contract re-negotiation periods, and it's the main reason I will never have Dish Network again.

According to this article,
http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6583955.html?desc=topstory
Gol TV were only getting .06 cents per customer, while we subscribers were forced to pay $54+ to get bundled crap just to watch FSC and Gol TV.
I used to remember back in the day on Dish, when $5 got you Telemundo, Prime Deportiva (before becoming FSW->FSC), HTV, MTV Espanol; then they obsoleted that package and forced people to pay 2x that for the current Spanish package. You got alot of futbol between Prime Deportiva, Telemundo,
Univision, & Galavision.

DirectV
CHOICE— Locals Included
$52.99
SPORTS PACK
$12.00
Total:*
$64.99
*right now DirecTV has a deal for $18 off a month if you get the 12 month commitment.
Gets you the ESPN channels, FSC and Gol TV.
Dish
America's Top 250 54.99
Gets the ESPN, FSC channels (used to get GOL TV). That doesn't include local channels ($5) or the regional sports networks in the sports pack.
So its $10 less, but if you are a sports fan of MLB or NFL you can't get the extra packages with DISH, and now you can't even get GOLtv. It seems to me that Directv is the better option. Am I missing something?

Well I thought I had it good - $120 a month gave us Top 250 + Multi Sport (GolTV and all the Fox Sports channels) + Dish HD + Setanta
I canceled Setanta for the summer.
Now GolTV is no longer on Dish, and I have no way of watching La Liga. For a business I do, that puts the choke hold on personal revenue stream.
So why am I with Dish? And what am I supposed to do? We just paid a year's worth of the Multi Sport - but outside of the occasional Big 12 football game, I only watch GolTV. If I cancel, I cant imagine the fees involved??

The only reason I switched to Dish Network was because it had GolTV for a cheaper price. I don't know what Dish was thinking when they dropped it - they knew they were going to upset tons of people. I'm emailing both parties at least once a day until the channel is re-instated. Its bull.

I wrote to Dish and the reply I got was essentially, "if you want to switch we won't stop you and here's the number to call" plus the "you can get what you want on the channels we are replacing it with"--which I is untrue because the Bundelsiga is a Gol TV exclusive (and I specifically mentioned that in my note). Not good customer service, IMHO. And I have been with them for a number of years.

...so they're adding another soccer channel I've not heard of yet?

They replaced it for now with Fox Sports Espanol.... My guess is they figured that one Spanish language sports network is the same as the next one.

I wouldn't hold my breath for seeing Gol TV this season on Dish Network. I left Dish for DirecTV a few years ago when Dish removed OLN/Versus at the beginning of the NHL season during a similar contract dispute. They finally brought the channel back for the second round of the playoffs on their highest priced package where the channel used to be on the lowest priced package. Dish's increased nickel and diming ($5 each for damn near anything, no phone line connected, lowering of service, etc.) also helped motivate me to leave and DirecTV has been pretty good to me.

And isn't that like a temporary free preview or something like that?
When I called to cancel service I could tell the account rep was reading from a script (at first they thought GolTV was a golf channel...). They repeated the same talking points that are on the website, that GolTV is being unreasonable, that you can watch similar programming on FSE, etc. Once I explained to the guy that
1. GolTV was the reason why I had Dish in the first place, so there's no reason to stay if it's no longer carried,
2. "Similar" != "the same", sorry, and
3. FSE is in Spanish, I don't speak Spanish, while I get GolTV in English. This last point doesn't really matter to me since the GolTV announcers are pretty lousy, but it makes a convincing argument nonetheless. Why should I pay for a channel that shows me Major League baseball in Spanish?
Anyway, once I explained the above to the nice man, my service was discontinued without any further argument. I understand they want to keep my business, but the way to do that is to give me the channels I want, not by trying to convince me I want the channels they have.
