Arsenal have confirmed William Gallas will remain as captain for the new season.
The 30-year-old French defender skippered the Gunners last term and has been chosen for the job again, ahead of potential contenders such as Cesc Fabregas.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: 'If he plays, he will be captain. 'If he does not play, it will be somebody else. But William will be the club captain, yes.'

Didn't see it posted anywhere else. Hopefully he doesn't sulk and kick advertising boards again...

I don't really think this is news. He didn't get sold, so i figure we all knew that he would be Captain again. Could you imagine the hissy fit he'd throw if Wenger took the armband away from him? He'd probably go lock himself in a closet.

Only really posted it because recently Gallas made comments on how he has "grown" from last seasons disappointments, and want peoples opinions. Honestly i wouldn't want him as captain but considering how long our last captains have faired, Gilberto included as he had the arm band for a fair while, it may be an anti-Gallas blessing in disguise.

I still want King Kolo as the Captain but Anti's right, they had to appease him.

Exactly, if u kept him and didn't
give it to him, I'm afraid he would become
a distraction.

I still think his attitude stinks.

I for one, still really like Gallas, and there was no way that AW was going to take away the captainship from Gallas, so I'm not surprised by this decision. It really was a non-decision.

I think this was the first big mistake of the season.

I'm not surprised, who knows what stripping him of the captaincy at this point might have done to his state of mind? Personally I agree with mobjack, Toure would be the ideal captain.

I also would have rather seen Toure as captain, but Gallas is a suitable captain as well

Gallas was a decent captain last year, and he should continue to gel with the squad this year. His incident at Birmingham was a bit childish, but all athletes at every level of every sport are prone to daft moments. We should forgive and move on. Kolo is a capable Vice-Captain in the event Gallas isn't in the game.
