Hey guys i just found this site randomly, but it has some good info on it. Ive searched the other threads but i can't seem to find anyone else with the same problem i have. So here goes.
Everytime i try to curve the ball it ends up going straight, it does get off the ground but it never has any curve to it, sometimes the ball is spinning but it still doesn't curve. Once in a while i get a little curve but nothing to big, but im trying to learn to curve it like the kid in this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNDB5QU5bBY I feel like im hitting the ball right but maybe im not. If anyone could explain what part of the foot to hit the ball with, where on the ball to hit, and how to swing that would be greatly appreciated. I know the vid shows it but maybe i need a better explanation. Thanks in Advance

erm not sure really the video is quite good at that and thats all you need some people naturally cant curl the ball but others can like me.
best advise is practice and then it should be ok but just make sure you follow through and kick the right part of the ball.

im pretty sure there are many tutorials of how to curl or curve the ball on youtube.
anyways, there are different ways players kick the ball. i believe its andrea pirlo(ac milan) hits the ball with the front of the inside of his foot near his toes which gives his shots lots of dip and curve.
just look up those tutorials on youtube and im sure you'll get some pointers and if something doesnt work just use the old fashioned hard work and practice or just ask a coach or trainer for some tips
hope it helps :D

If you can't get it off the groung, in your run up, let you last step be a large one...kindof like a skip, so you lean back when you strike the ball. Use the side of your foot and follow through. Thats a simplified version, but it will curve once your understand the technique

Idealy you should be able to curve the ball in any direction with either foot. The curve is from spin just like a curve ball in baseball. The way I teach kids to curve the ball is to have them imagine a happy face on the ball. Kicking the ball in the nose (dead center) imparts no spin, but the ball will knuckle if struck hard. This is desireable for shooting on goal. For curves I tell them to kick the ball in the right eye, left eye, and mouth. In reality there are 360 degrees of possible curves you can make by striking the ball off center. Start off by striking the ball slightly off center for small curves at first. Then try striking further away. One inch off center makes a big difference in the flight of the ball.
The problem the happy face is intended to solve is that the beginner will change the direction of movement of his foot to compensate so that the foot still moves through the center of the ball although the contact point of the surface of the ball has changed. You want to approach and kick in the same manner each time, but just strike the ball off center. Vary the spot to get different results. It just takes practice. Hitting above the center is useful for keeping hard shots low. Hitting the mouth (below center) is useful for chips and passes that you don't want to roll out of bounds. Left and right curves allow you to send passes away from opponents and make balls easier for your team mates to run onto.

I have always curved the ball, I guess it was natural the way I kicked the ball. I actually had to learn to kick it straight when I was yourger. I guess it's just all about practice and form.

Right before i kick the ball during the runup i lean a lot to the side and hit the ball with power, with the inside of the foot quite near to the toe. People say my technique looks a lot like beckhams (not as accurate and consistent of course) and i do get a hell of a curl during shots/crosses. sometimes its not even to a good effect because its so hard to judge. but look up some videos on youtube on how some players take freekicks and learn from it. but actually going out on your own and practising against a wall or something is essential.

curving the ball is a good option for free kicks, to get it around the wall....
the first thing is to picture the ball having a smiling face :) .... now kick the ball in a way so that your ankle and boot covers the mouth in the same orientation......finally have your foot follow through
let me know if you accomplished it

Yeah that is exactly what happens to me most of the time, the ball spins but there is no curve. Is there any reason for that???

It's kind of hard to solve your problem without actually seeing you kick a ball, but I guess you could try leaning away from the ball and kicking across its surface more.

I think its just the way it hits your foot really. and as it has the foward motion it doesnt really matter if it has some spin on it.

Try to start from a bigger angle to the side and hit the ball on the side and not directly at it.

Curving it with the outstep is a bit more complicated, but is best for fooling the keeper and getting around the wall as they rarely see it comming. Rather than striking it in the center with the outstep(as if you wanted it to go straight) you have to hit it center-right/center-left and get as much spin on it as possible. It´s better to practice long passes with the outstep, and add the power later on once you´re good at it.
