Nobody's responded to my slight criticisms of the Casbah, so I'm making my own thread about it. I love you guys, the balance between 19U06 and the Casbah is working out great. The only thing I think we clash on is the use of drums. At times, the Casbah seems to go a bit wild with the drums and too many of them at that, and too loud also. It drowns out voices, cancels out any opportunity that the supporters groups could work together (because we can't hear your voices), and it's all you can really hear on TV. Plus, I think some Casbah members are even drowned out by the loud drumming and they probably feel less inclined to sing if nobody (especially the players) can hear.
So here's my plea to turn down the drums a bit. Everything else is going great on your end and I hope we work together well this Sunday.

Not that I'm the voice of the Casbah or anything, but I cant say I feel strongly about this either way. I'm certainly not less inclined to sing because of the drums... & the drummers typically follow the lead of the person that has started the song anyway - so they add to it. Besides - if people want to bang drums & make a noise its fine by me.
Sorry for a boring post...

I kind of agree with you plus I think if all off us are on the same page we will have more than enough voices to be heard and the drums will add to that.

I have no problem whatsoever with the volume of the drums... And I'm standing right in there amongst them.

Maybe we need some advice from SouthSanJoQUAKE?

I actually got a PM from him and everything is cool. He is sitting with you guys (well I guess all of us in Oakland). So he is going to stand and be heard. He alright. I think if both groups work together in Oakland we can have a good game creating atmosphere. I am looking forward to that and kicking Landycakes square in the ass :D

drums just get in the way. Its an ammature league thing. Drums are holding back the MLS from becomming the best league. Singing is for soccer fans drums are for rockers. on TV drums sound horrible. Takes out all the voices in the crowd and i feel like its more of a circus or a mexican league game then a more professional league. drums have to go as the league develops.

Disagree. Let's move on and just agree to disagree on this.

I don't think they're unnecessary or anything, I just think the Casbah's drums need to be tempered a bit, which they were today. Well done drummers. It was a real pleasure having the two groups work together by the way, I thought it went really well.

Now this, I can agree with.
As for the concerns with us drummers - check the TV broadcasts. The whole stadium is booming with even one drum, let alone more (good mike placement.) We know you guys get irritated by our smashing, so we do temper it a bit, as we did with the Ultras today. But if things get too quiet/boring, we do what we gotta do. We bring it, loud and hard, bleeding on the damn thing by the end of the match. If the folks who bug on that want to be heard, then they need to raise their voices higher and louder. MLS is watching...

At the end of the day, that's all that really matters.

Same. I do wish we could bring in other instruments. Ultras do you guys have a big bass drum? Our boy Gayle doesn't come to games as often and we're lacking without him, honestly.
I was at the Chivas/atlante game in their Ultras section and they had this metal cheesegrater looking thing that sounded nice, and of course the plastic horns that everyone hates, and this wooden clicking thing.
If we can get a good variety of instruments rather then all drums, then our groups would sound better.

We're not a samba group, here to entertain everybody with our songs. How does that help the team, having more instruments?

That is actually quite common in South America. I don't know if it would work for us.

I know it is. It's also quite lame as far as pumping up a team goes. Just because they do it in Brazil and the Caribbean does not mean it'd work here.

And the fact that they don't do it in Europe doesn't mean it wouldn't work here.
That said I don't feel it would work for us.

True, but yeah, I agree.
