Are we losing our top four place? What?! Have Spurs, Newcastle, Villa, Everton got better players than us now? Heck no. I'd reckon all of these teams would challenge for the UEFA Cup place.
And who gives a flying ******** what the media people say? Didn't they say last season that Spurs would finish higher than us? They gloat about how Adebayor might leave but how many pundits thought that he'd emerge as a leading Premier League striker last season?
Our early premier league fixtures are mostly against teams that either may finish in mid-table or scrap against relegation. There is little to no reason why we can't beat those teams and gain a good position in the table. By the time we play Man United, I see little reason why we can't be in the top 3.
If I were Wenger I would be using this negative flak to gee my players up. "See what the pundits are saying about you? Go out and prove the ********ers wrong!" It's Arsenal tradition to win despite adversity and being the underdog, so let's carry on that tradition into the new season.

Screw the media, how about the doom and gloom around here?
Remember when it used to be fun to post here?
When you could have a laugh and talk Arsenal with like minded individuals?
It's just depressing these days. What the hell happened?

It's just depressing these days. What the hell happened? Arsenal America is starting to seem sensible and positive. :)

I've never posted over there. I might need to make a change of internet address.

I agree wholeheartedly. I didn't use to post that much, but I enjoyed coming to the site. I still check the site by habit, it is nearly as fun. I think things will change once the season begins...I hope then people will finally rally around the team.

Don't get your hopes up. It seems like even when we win the discussion is about what defender we can blame for giving up a goal.

I don't know what happened, but you're right, the vibe is not as good.
Maybe I'm just a simpleton, and lack the finer insights of a football genius, but I just try to support Arsenal as best I can given my circumstances. I go when I can, I join as a member, I buy a few things from the club, I watch on television, etc. I've tended to enjoy the company of fellow Arsenal supporters (online and off), and I respect and appreciate the approach and history of the club.
I want Arsenal to win every match and win all competitions. As a grownup, I understand that's not going to happen. I do not like it when we lose (see immediately previous comment re: wanting us to win) but I understand that sometimes we will lose or draw. Sometimes we will lose to a team we shouldn't. Sometimes we will draw with a team we should beat. Sometimes we will advance to the next round, sometimes we won't.
But if we lose, I do not take it personally nor do I use it as a chance for me to show everyone how much smarter I am than the manager, the directors, the assistant manager, the keeper, etc. I've not seen any evidence that anyone associated with the club, from Chairman on down to me, wants anything other than for the club to do well and to win things.
Anyway, I want Arsenal to win and do well.

Thirded. And I'm not talking about anyone or anything in particular, this site just seems to be more gloomy than it used to be. When I first joined, I learned a lot about the club I love and the players I follow from the 'old timers' (in term only) who had been following Arsenal for a long time. It was genuinely positive, and it showed that a lot of people cared for Arsenal. Today, their talk has been replaced by a new wave of posters with a lot of cynicism toward the club.
Maybe it's just me, but I consider 'fans' to throw their entire support behind the club, come hell or high water. And it seems like most of the new posters on this board would rather complain about something, then support the Arsenal (I'm sorry to all new posters whom this doesn't apply to). We all know the team isn't perfect, and maybe the way it's ran does not coincide with people's ideas how it should be ran. But it's the team we CHOOSE to follow. So if you can't just get behind the team, why are you supporting?
(BTW, I'm a hardcore U of M, and Detroit everything fan - Pistons, Red Wings, Lions and Tigers, so I know what it's like to not have silverware for a year or 50)

To be honest, i think we've been missing the influence of Mods like Rick and Coach. Those two really set a tone for the board that was open and fun, but they also knew how to put the smack down on anyone who tried to spoil the party.

But you've got to wonder, Liverpool fans and even Sperz fans always seem to look to the new season with optomism. Alot of folks around here just want to throw in the towel. It's just sad. It's honestly bumming me out right now. WTF?

It's like this every summer. This summer in paticular has been negative for the club so far because of all the departures - only 1 was past his expiration date, Ade's coming out party as whore who is just here for the money, our ex-players continually showing their doubt in the team, and the countless little annoyances like Rosicky not making it in time for the start of the season etc. More specifically for this board we started on a horrible note back in May with the board talk, and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the summer.
Once we conclude our transfer dealings, we know with certainty what our squad will look like, and the season starts, things will go back to how they were before.

i think i am in a "sit and wait" mode...
look at last year, we got completely hosed against liverpool in the CL (i dont think anyone can argue that).
we had that small stretch of games where we had crappy draws (instead of wins), + a boatload of injuries to key personnel.
depth will once again be an issue and not too sure about toure/gallas in the middle, or i'd be confident of the league this year.

I started posting here about 7 years ago, and I've never seen it like this. Last year after Henry left was pretty gloomy, but the pissing and moaning, and the conflicts between factions were never this bad.
F*** 'em all, we're winning the quad.

Might have something to do with the concept of signing new players instead of waiting for players to develop.
Also have to look at the scope of the discussions, I don't think there is any negative vibes regarding a top four finish. Even the most negative would have to be a bit foolish to think that we WILL finish outside of the Top four.
However, winning trophies and sustaining are two different manners. Am I positive about bringing home a trophy this year? Na, I don't see it realistically happening.
But that doesn't mean I won't have fun watching the season develop and cheering my ass off hoping that a run occurs.

That's exactly where we all should be.
It's completely foolish to be leaning one way or the other at this point.
Just a note to DaPrince and the rest of the board, please look up the definition of panic. Panic and negativity are not the same thing. While there is a lot of negativity around here at the moment, I don't think I have seen anyone panic.

Some people are always out to spoil the fun...
And, for whatever reason, it's become ok to slag off the club to no end (the manager, the players, and yes even the board) because you're a "fan". If some Manc or Tottenshit supporter came here putting us down, we'd shut'em down, but no, because you're a "fan" its alright. And you know what, its a damn pain and it kills everything thats fun about BS.

Did you see Sperz and Portsmouth bringing home trophies last year? But we don't have a shot, huh?
